A1(M) floods

Anyone know why several miles of this brand new road managed to flood? surely heads will roll somewhere after this embarrassment.

not the only flooded road round here mind you getting anywhere at all from the farm needs a 10 mile detour and the waters are still rising. The local school is one crow mile away or less but it looks like a 20 mile drive maybe need in the morning to take the boy to school Shocked .

most of the fields around are totally flooded, and as I speak we have a huge water fall as flood water has breeched the second flood bank, after flooding the first field to a depth of 7 ft. the water then flows through a potato field and is washing spuds out onto my neighbours land

this morning when the first flood bank overspilled. the second flood bank is 300 yard inland and failed this evening

sorry to hear that CG, looks like home has been hit pretty hard from the news. On the other hand, that is a very fine looking machine!, I hope you keep her warm in a nice shed with all the toys a man deserves - working as hard as a farmer does of course : )

We expect our first snowfall in the north of sweden tomorrow if anyone is looking for somewhere else to be ; )

house and farmstead are on hill top. It that floods then everyone else is 100 ft under.

that tractor isnt mine its hired and at £700 a week its gone back until (if) the land dries out again.

Been busy in the workshop repairing bent tractors ( time for dad to retire I think).
Adding anti freeze to coolant on the combine harvest after mud built up on the tyres at harvest and ripped the hot water supply pipes to the cab heater away draining the whole engines water away, luckily not over cooking the engine.
then changing even more tractor fuel hoses as this new bio-diesel seems to quite simply dissolve them.

the 12 mile trip to dealers for combine coolant turned into a 30 mile trip thanks to the A1 blockage and other minor roads flooded too.

I'm lucky really my neighbours have several hundred acres flooded, compared to my 20, a hill protects most of my land from the river

oh and the new mechanic continues to impress

Old boy driving it put on his wellies then the water promptly filled them, I never got out of my tractor, engine dead on merc he seemed to think it would dry out Laughing

the road is washing away closer to the river so we can expect many more trapped cars when the attempt to get through when the waters subside a little

the council put up cones to block the road, they are 1/4 mile away in a field now At work

did the school run again this pm, towed out a new skoda superB, and a 12 reg VW tanny van, reckon I've towed close to £100,000s worth of wrecked cars out of the soup today.
The builder working on a house at the floods edge reckoned the superB was doing around 40 when it splashed out, even as I was undoing the tow ropes people were asking me if it was crossable in their cars Laughing
I told them no way but then a tiny honda super mini thing spluttered through the water unscathed, a credit to honda that one must have a high air intake, it was another very new car, why do people forget their brains when faced with a flood?

then the van driver bunged me a few quid in return for rescuing him and I got heckled by a motorist for being a money grabber At work
