Funny that it's just over two years to the day that I had my issue. I have to admit I hadn't kept an eye on this thread, really concerning how many cars are missing this valve.

Following this thread and after reading the article in LR monthly [ Octobers ] about this subject , just fitted a K&N filter after finding water in mine and foam sides damp , HOWEVER , my valve is fitted and working , but what I did find was the intake to the box was very loose , removed box and found the 'o' ring which should have sealed the joint missing , hence water could enter from the front off the box . Good old RTV sealant applied now a water cannot enter that way . Interesting what other people will find . |

As it turns out I found an alternative laying around the yard. It's a one way valve from a Defender air box. Worked a treat. |

Noticed my 2011 plate sd4 was missing this and added a plastic disc to do the job. My 2007 td4 did have a short rubber tube with a flattened end which acted as a valve. Should have removed it before I p/x'd it! |

The "valve" is merely a flexible rubber disc (from memory, approx 30mm dia) with a hole (about 4mm) to slip it over the central spigot on the base of the air box. With mine, I was lucky enough to find the valve sitting on top of the gearbox! I made a better job of securing it by adding a flat washer (about 15mm) with a central hole that was a tight fit over the spigot.
