Improved sound using a Fiio E17?

Does anyone use a Fiio E17 between their iPod and the FL stereo? If so does it improve the sound?

The E17 i s a DAC/headphone amplifier that can be used as a DAC on a laptop or an amplifier with an iPod. The reviews are very positive and instead of improving the headphone sound I was wondering whether it actually improves the sound through the FL.

Thanks
Simon

I haven't used one but whilst it would improve the sound I still think you will be limited by the speakers, but you never know!

Thanks Boof.I think you are right, there would be a limitation in the speakers. Reading around the forums it looks as though the idea of the E17 (and E11) is to turn down the volume of the iPod and use the E17/11 as the amp which is a better amp than in the iPod. This should result in a better sound.

Hi, I've used a Fiio E6 with my iPhone and some expensive earphones and whilst it gives more volume I didn't think there was an appreciable difference in the quality. This is a subjective judgement but I've had some good audio equipment in the past and I think I have a good ear. I didn't try using this with the FL2 but would imagine that it would;t make much difference.
There is an added faff of connecting another bit of kit too.
I got the LR iPod connector (2nd hand on eBay) and whilst expensive, it does provide significantly better sound quality.

When I was at top gear live, there was a car audio security stand there. They were selling a JBL product which connects to your ipod aux in and does some magic in-between... Apparently it adjusted the parameters based on the car acoustics. They were normally £140 and they were selling for £29.99....

I did buy the E17. It does improve the sound (as a DAC) from an Apple Mac but as yet I haven't tried it in the Freelander (as an amplifier).
