There isn't normally, but if soldering your live connection onto a blade, you want to ensure that it is installed the right way round otherwise your connection isn't protected by the fuse wire and a short could result in quite a serious problem. In this case it would hopefully blow the main fuse in the engine fuse box that provides all the power to the interior fuse box before causing a fire or melting something important. Shocked

These installs do look good. My Garmin has been giving me grief, keeps thinking it is where it isn't and just locks up for long periods of time (5-10 minutes) generally when I need it most. Apparently, it is a somewhat common fault I can clear with a hard-reset!

I am looking into mounting my old Samsung Galaxy Tab behind the dash, but I think it might be a bit too big! Will probably take the dash out this weekend to investigate Thumbs Up

I also didn't realise the blade fuse had a particular way to be installed and don't quite understand Moondog's clarification. Anyone care to elaborate? 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

Taz , do you know if you can delete the reminder for connecting to your computer , When you've got to the stage of installing it you don't really need this.

Normally a blade fuse can go either way but when you solder a wire onto either post, then it matters. If you fit it wrong then the fuse will not protect the SatNav as the soldered wire will be coming off the main 'bus' and the fuse will be 'redundant'.
I did exactly the same as 'Taz' by removing a little corner of a 5a blade fuse to expose the fuse post, then soldered a wire to it. Then it was inserted the right way into F5 position so it's controlled by the ignition switch.

Just a quick question. When you switch the ignition off doesn't a TomTom revert to its own internal battery supply?

I am using a Garmin unit fixed in the cubby hole and when I switch the ignition off, the Garmin brings up a screen giving me the option to switch unit off using the touch screen.

I prefer the TomTom operating system to the Garmin and would like to change and your installation looks very good indeed.

In the menu , under battery ,you can configure it to come on wihen connected to power , and turn off when power lost. It just powers up with ignition on . When you turn off it goes to a shut down screen with a countdown about 9 secs . I dont know if this is to save settings to memory.

There are some good map colour schemes on this site, work very well and easy to install.
I have chosen the UK_OS map, I like the road colours to be the same as OS maps, ie blue motorways.
There is a AZ style map colour scheme too Thumbs Up

Did mine at last yesterday Thumbs Up

For anyone wanting to have a go, it really is straight forward:

Go to the speaker looking panel on the dash above the cubby - using a plastic lever (or a covered/protected wide flat blade screwdriver - so you don't mark the interior) - start at the top (near the windscreen) just off centre and carefully lever the panel up (there is a clip top dead centre) - then work your way gently either side (the are two more clips - one either side about half way down). Once all three clips are popped then the panel will lift off - move it up and slightly towards the windscreen to remove.

Next remove the daft little bobbly rubber tray below the cubby. Put your fingernail down the top lip of it slightly off centre and lever it forward. Then gently pull it up from the top whilst pushing it slightly back.

You can now see six Torx screws - four at the top and two behind where the bobbly panel was - remove them all using T20 screwdriver.

Take hold of the top of the cubby/radio surround panel and start to ease it forward. It is a fairly big panel, one piece that goes all the way down to the the terrain response knob area but pops off fairly easily with just a bit of pulling pressure. Once the four or so clips have released then the panel will come free. Reach behind it and disconnect the multiplug behind the hazard switch area. The panel and cubby are now free to remove from the dash.

I laid the panel face down, fitted the double sided tape around the old cubby opening, then pressed on the TomTom and connected its USB lead.

As in Haynes tradition - refitting is reverse of above. Offer panel back up, reconnect multiplug, push panel back into place so all clips click. Route USB cable through to glovebox and (in my case) connect to iPod kit USB port. Refit Torx screws (only four because cubby is not going back in). Pop bobbly rubber shelf back on. Then tuck in/press top panel back on until all three clips click in.

Job done in less than a hour - looks brill Thumbs Up

Quick run out and all was fine - gps quick to pick up - just needed to turn the sound up on the TomTom

Thanks Donny . Just did a final mod to installation .

I wanted a way of turning TT off and on while driving instead of disconnecting USB connection . As I have the ipod module the Aux input is redundant . So I decided to install small rocker switch (Maplins )into this location. Removed rear Audio modules and removed aux input . This is still connected but hidden under centre console behind rear module so can be easily refitted .

Got a 4m Usb lead and split open cable to expose wires half way along . Cut red power wire and soldered to rocker switch . Fed wires through hole and tucked into centre handbrake console up to glovebox.

reconnected to TT USB and ipod module USB

Can now turn on when needed while driving

Have not needed to break into car wiring loom , and everything can be easily removed to return car to factory default

Small query - my F5 fuse position already has a 10a fuse installed. No problem, as I can use another position, but wondered whether anyone knows if this is just a spare fuse or actually has a purpose? Car has no added accessories that I'm aware of.
