What to look out for when buying a FL2?

Hi all.

This is my first post as a prespective FL2 buyer and i wanted to picks your wealth off knowledge on what to look out for when purchasing a used FL2.

The vehicle in question is a 56 plate 2.2TD4 HSE. The car seems to have all the usual bells and whistles associated with the HSE model from what i can work out, with FSH and has covered 96k. The seller is asking £8995 for it.

What are the most common things to go wrong with the FL2? Is the mileage of 96k going to be an issue? Will the FL2 happily do high mileage if serviced correctly and at the appropriate intervals?

Sorry for all the questions but all answers will be greatly received! Cool

If the 'FSH' is a full Land Rover dealer history and you can see all receipts, service book etc then it should be ok. If it is a dealer selling the car can you get hold of the previous keepers details from the V5 and get in touch to find out more about the history of the car? Is there a warranty on offer with it? 96k on a well looked after diesel should not be a problem. The asking price sounds reasonable to me.

No doubt you will get a lot of advice from the more experienced members of the forum. If you do buy a FL2 you will not be disappointed but there's plenty of them around so if you are not sure about this one, you will find another.

Thanks for the prompt reply Reg. Appreciate your thoughts. I know people get hung up about higher mileage but i'm always under the impression that if it's been serviced using the correct fluids and on time then a modern day engine should be fine. Are there any well documented weak components associated with the engine or drivetrain?

some things to check for - might help you discount the price further.
1. drivers seat damage on outside edge bum area, they are know to crack
2. seatbelt A post damage, where belt returns into piller
3. have a good look underneath for damage, a good indicator is the sump guard
4. water ingress to rear high level brake light
5. even tyre wear, though most are prone to edge wear on front tyres
6. ALL the electrics work, I always check the date on the SAT NAV DVD Disc ( under drivers seat)
7. lift up the folding rear seats to see signed for excessive dirt build up ( might have been used as a tractor !! like one I saw a while ago)
8. when the engine is hot and running lift oil filler cap, there should be no / minimal pressure / smoke, and no white gunge
9. Parking Sensors are a know issue

just a few......

Check for whining power steering as early models had problems with swarf in the rack clogging up the fine-mesh filter in reservoir leading to fluid starvation and failure. Catch it early enough and you can get away with a new(modified) reservoir and changing the fluid.
The tailgate switch tends to turn to mush but is only £20 to replace and easy to do (did mine this morning).
Rear diff whine may indicate a bearing failure.
Check that software updates carried out - particularly if it has an auto box as if not done it may screw the box.
Don't be put off by this - they are great vehicles and not all suffer the above. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.
- GCS Hawke - Sports, BRG, Vulcan 2.1 inj'. My toy - built it myself in 2001.

Can you please use the reply button instead of the quote button and it extends the thread and makes it unreadable
