Bike racks

I am looking for recommendations for a towbar mount style bike rack for the freelander
I would like one if possible that can carry 2 adult and 1 child bike but also be able to tow the caravan if that's possible

Bike racks are not something I have ever owned or had anything to do with before so I may need some education on what you can do with them

I have a rack that mounts on a plate sandwiched between the tow ball and the towbar. The plate carries a vertical tube which mounts 2 arms for hanging the bikes on and there is a steady strap that goes into the tailgate.
I’ll get some photos of the components tomorrow if you like. I can’t show you it fitted as I’ve now got a swan neck towbar fitted which this doesn’t fit.

Pictures would be great
I think my tow ball is a Swan neck (will check tomorrow) so that may cause me a problem

I use a Halfords 4 bike rack.
Fits perfectly, and the tow bar isn't stressed by it. However it's the bike rack or trailer, not both. The bike rack clamps over the ball, so there's nothing for a trailer hitch to mount on.

That is the style I prefer and I don’t tow so the towball can be used for other things.
With a swan neck towbar there is nothing to clamp the bike rack to so you’ll end up suspending a rack from the bodywork and just securing it with hooks and straps and blocking access to the tailgate. I know people who’ve watched a bike, complete with rack, bounce down the motorway in front of them. Not a nice moment.

IIRC, the MaxxRax range site on a bar mounted behind the tow ball,
I believe you can hitch a trailer. I think that right, but I could be dreaming. Laughing DAVE.

OK. just looked at the "Wilmond" site and yes trailer and bike will work
with the MaxxRaxx, I did have one of these on my D2 and I could tilt it and partially open the rear door.
hope this helps. DAVE.

There are bike racks that clamp between the ball and bracket, which hold the bikes above the tow hitch height. However these bike racks won't fit a swan neck tow bar, as the ball is integral to the swan neck. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

I have this one for sale, will fit three adult bikes on it, down side is you can't open the boot.

They do now, although it'll need to be fitted by an autherised installer.

Have you looked at the price of a decent bike recently?

Why not mount the bike rack on the caravan? My rack fits into a 2 inch hitch receiver (very popular here) so I mounted one to the rear bar of my van. I can mount the rack to the car or the van.

The rack also has a pivot so I can get into the back of the car.
