Engine died and not starting

Hello
New to this forum. I was driving home last night 20 miles into journey turned a corner and accelerated and engine just died. I coasted to the side of the road and then it wouldnt restart. The engine is cranking fine but not starting. I also noticed that whilst I was trying this (ignition off on etc) that the ignition did not always come on before when pressing the start button, but even when it did it still cranked but wouldnt start. Called the AA who hadnt got a clue and had to be towed! Please help any ideas?

Thanks for replying. I had 1/2 tank of diesel at the time. Or I think so!

Hopefully the problem left a 'fault code' that could point to the reason, did the AA man not interrogate for codes?

i hope it was a low loader and not actually towed (iirc your can't tow a FL2)

hopefully the fault code will give a little bit more of a clue and it will be a simple fix

You have stated its Tangier Orange in your profile, is it a G4 edition car? and if so have you been playing off road in water/mud

Incredulous Shocked
Where's the FL2 now? Call the AA out again and this time don't let the beggar leave until you get some sense out of him/her.

Hi yes it was a low loader it was towed a short distance as was in a dangerous spot! Had the car towed to Hunters LR in Derby but as they were closed the AA wouldnt leave it so it was towed home. WHat a farce. What do you mean by G4 edition yes it is orange!

Derby Eh Whistle
Some members on here have good things to say about Hunters over on Pride Park - others have not Exclamation

There is a site sponsor "10-forCash" (click on the sponsor banner above) he once a long time ago emailed me he lived in the Derby area but I have heard from another Freel2 member that he thought he lived in Stoke. If he's in the Derby area you could well try him as he is often spoken of as very able re Land Rover's - especially electrics. Just a thought. Idea

the G4 edition was Tangiers Orange which is a solid paint, G4 was a limited run for event cars for a LR run challenge that the contestants drove through jungles and stuff and did manly things

since you don't know what G4 was, I guess it might be a tambora flame orange, which is metalic orange one, like the picture in the top left, which was a limited edition launch colour for the FL2

Strange they wouldn't leave the car at hunters, i have had my car towed off after hours and they pop it in a holding pen till they open (though this wasn't hunters)

Sorry to be such a numpy it is flame orange then. No holding pen at Hunters just full of double yellows for miles around pride park! I am suspecting with the suddeness of it that it may be fuel pump? Are these usually reiable?

The fuel lift pump is on the back of the injector pump. There is no pump in the tank that pumps fuel to the engine, there is a transfer pump theat pumps from one saddle tank to the other.
Due to the lack of a proper tank mounted pump they can be "difficult" to bleed - the AA gave up after an hour on mine. Any air leak into the fuel system is a nightmare, because the fuel doesn't leak out, just air in.

If the tank gauge has a bad day it will show that fuel is left in the tank, but you will run out, you then need at least 10 litres of fuel (according to my local dealer) to prime the system. Easiest way to check is cycle the information centre, if you have done 400 miles since your last fill up, and you have 200 miles range left - then the fuel gauge is lying. You do fill up and reset the display every time don't you!

Doesn't mean it is the fuel gauge, could just as easily be a security/fob issue, or a faulty crank sensor. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
