So there I was, for several months contacting a host of companies to try and get a proper combination. I was originally told nothing would fit the standard 19" rims that come with the HST.

Seems like it was the hardest thing to do, and only a combination of old 16" LR wheels would work. Eventually I thought back o my old D3 which had 255x55x19 Goodyear MTR's. Went to my local tyre specialist who ummm'd are arhhhhh's, but thought we'd try it anyway. Hey Presto!!! it works and they're fab.

Just thought I'd share that one with others contemplating same...........

P.S. F2 is far better drive than D3[/b]

You're gonna have to post some pics of you FL2 riding on MTRs, I'd like to see that.

Do they rub at all? have you had them on full axle articulation to test rubbing yet?

Where they are 255 rather than the standard 235 will they affect the rolling diameter ie pinching the tyre on the rim giving a bigger diameter and putting the speedo out?

Yup Vectis. the rims are perfectly happy with the slightly wider track, height has increased too. 255x55 aspect ratio gives an increased diameter of 2.97%, hence I need to be aware that when I think I'm doing 60mph, it's more like 62.

What are you doing with your old 19" tyres?

Just left the tyres at the depot - less than 6k mileage too!

I didn't want them hanging around in the garage - I already have a set of MTR's on 19" rims in there from my old D3.

Still haven't managed to get out onto the fell roads to test on full articulation, rmbillington, but will do and post pictures too.

Weird thing is that there is less road noise than I had with similar rubber on my D3.

.......and the bad news re old tyres, is that I was shown their tyre container and invited to go hunting - I don't think so!

I can vouch for the Cooper Discovery ATRs

Worked perfectly at the LRO show course.

Definitely a lot more grip going downhill than my old road tyres.

The only time I got stuck is where axle articulation was overcome on steep hills, and the traction control couldn't break the free wheels enough to get the car going again. Different route worked perfectly.

Also, made it up one big steep hill first time, when the Defender in front had to try twice. Definitely made me smile.

Just wish they hadn't left loads of over hanging branches on a course that newer vehicles use, got some good car length scratches to polish out now, would have been severely gutted if I was driving a brand new car, at least I already had some scratches.

Ratatatat, which part of the fens are you, anywhere need P'boro? Haven't managed to find too many good routes round here, wondered if you knew of any.

They come in the 235/65/17 size which most of us have and have had excellent reviews on other websites. However after not being able to find the above size in the shops I contacted Goodyear and they wont be available in the UK until March 2010!

Might be worth the wait if they are as good as suggested.
