2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Driving with tailgate partly open

I need to collect a long cabinet which will necessitate driving with the tailgate partly open for about 70 miles. I am anxious not to damage the 'door open' alarm system but, from memory, when I did this for 2 to 3 miles before to take rubbish to the local tip I believe it switched itself off after a while. Is there any technical reason why I can't do this? (I don't mean danger of CO poisoning etc).

I made a 12 mile trip with a bookcase hanging out the back and the warning alarm silenced after a while, no detrimental affect that I have noticed. I believe it must be programmed to semi ignore it after a while as it then believes it is purposeful.

Handy tip to know, I will drive with all the doors open tomorrow then, save on the air con.
