Rock sliders for Freelander 2 / LR2

Does anyone have any experience with rock sliders for the freelander 2 / LR2? I haven't been able to find anyone selling them.

The way I see it we freel2 owners have 3 options:
- Use the standard OEM steel tube side steps (LR003840, http://www.britpart.com/Accessory.asp?page...ryRef=182) as a slider and hope they don't break
- Buy aftermarket sliders for the FL1 (Ie, DAP sliders - http://wmrogers.smugmug.com/photos/93893308_kQkDj-M.jpg) and modify them to work on the FL2
- Buy 67" sliders built for another vehicle and modifying them for the LR2 (ie http://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/6734-rock-sl...719.html).

As anyone tried any of these options? Installed a hitch, stock roof rack, mantec skid plates, General Grabbers AT2 255/60/R18, and a rear access ladder. Also made a hitch-mount for the winch. Looking to install a front hitch, rooft-top basket, and lift kit.

Hi, I would scap the side step idea. They are fitted on brackets which will not take the weight....and bend! JT Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

Here is a picture of the Land Rover steel side tubes, never ventured onto terrain where they would have protected the body work, just into fields and muddy banks.

I think they would do a reasonable job in protecting the lower body work in rough terrain. They are very sturdy. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury Corris Grey

side tubes do protect somewhat, but they quickly get dinted and scratched then a little bit bent Confused At work

Not sturdy at all, I have two sets one for off road and one for best, and a spare set of brackets to replace the ones which bent

RLD on disso3 made them for the D3's, might be able to do something for Fl2

I found a good price for the side tubes so I just went ahead and bought them. I figure I'll replace them once they're trashed, but by seeing their failure points they'll give me a good idea of what I should fabricate myself.

I just need something to stop the plastic lower side panels from popping off when I go through rough terrain. Installed a hitch, stock roof rack, mantec skid plates, General Grabbers AT2 255/60/R18, and a rear access ladder. Also made a hitch-mount for the winch. Looking to install a front hitch, rooft-top basket, and lift kit.

Ah well they may be not sturdy ( I have swallowed humble pie on that one) but I think they look nice when new. Show us some pictures when fitted and how they stand up to the punishment, all good information for the forum! Thumbs Up 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury Corris Grey

Off-roaded last weekend with the side steps and destroyed them. They really didn't do much to protect the body unfortunately. They crumpled up and actually caused a few of the plastic side moldings to pop off.

I'll be manufacturing sliders and will post pics of those as I make progress on them.
