Good question, I thought that tachagraphs were only fitted to HGVs and that it was weight limit related |

Thank you Tigger, although the limit I've been quoted is a Gross Train Weight of 3500kg and the GTW of the Freelander is 4500kg |

I thought if you are towing for commercial reasons you need a tachometer? |

That's what I've also been told, I guess the only way to find out is to get 'pulled over' |

I remember seeing Angus Nairn on traffic cops pull a guy over in worcester who was in a LR defender towing a trailer with an old Range Rover on, first question asked 'where's your tachograph?' (sad that I remember all the detail i know!)

You're right, I'm wrong. It is 3.5 tonnes. Mind you, there's more to it than that and here's a rarely useful link:

A bit complex, if it is for business purposes you will be in Tachograph territory.

Thanks again Tigger, good link. I've been asked to tow a 1000kg Wood Chipper, although that puts my kerb weight upto 2900kg, I still think that because my GTW is 4500kg I still need a Tacho. Confused.com |
