Fuel gauge reading wrong

I have noticed for some time that my fuel gauge is mis-reading. It appears to be going up!!

Now, unfortunately, i dont think I have a miracle car that refuels itself as it goes along so down to the garage it has gone. Phone call just now from them saying that it needs an electronics/computer update and it isnt covered under the warranty as it isnt a 'mechanical failure', but an 'adjustment/upgrade'. Rather annoyed!! Censored

Thing that I'm wondering is, has anyone else had this (car is a 57 plate) and how longlasting/accurate is the upgrade going to be? I dont want to have to do this every few years.

Any advice appreciated.

Ta

Well they tried the software update on mine and it made no difference at all. See my post here: http://www.freel2.com/forum/post120097.html#120097 and on the previous page. Andyfr

England

The fuel tank self filling is a new LR facility, the tyres on mine do the same, it went for a service, they did a safety check and reported the tyres were at 4 and 5 mm, a week later I took it back for a different fuel gauge fault to be dixed and another safety check was done and the tyres were much better, they had between 6 and 7 mm remaining. That was nearly 2 months ago, I must check them soon as they should be just about new now. Confused

Went on Eurotunnel yesterday. Entered with the gauge showing 1/3rd of a tank, upon leaving the train the gauge showed 3/4 full. Distance to empty also reflected 3/4 tank. Over about 30 minutes of driving the gauge moved down to correct level along with DtoE. Don't know what caused it, maybe air pressure in tunnel?

Thanks for all your replies. Especially the link AndyFR. Not driven the car much since I picked it up but will have to see how it goes. Especially since the dealer took great pleasure in relieving me of £160+ for the work. Sad

One more thing tho, I have just heard that putting different size wheels on a car can change speedo readings etc. My car originally had 17'' alloys on but due to some issues when I was buying the car they got changed and upgraged to 18'' alloys. Would this make any difference at all??

No, when going from 17" (235/65/17) to 18" wheels (235/60/18] the tyres are usually reduced in height, giving as near as dammit the same rolling circumference.
Unless you got non LR spec tyres fitted.

Thanks for that - it is a new battery (replaced about 3 months ago) after the old one went flat so hopefully its not that.
