It’s probably been raised before but what are you supposed to do if your remote keys malfunction, or your battery dies, when you’ve got the car parked tight up against the wall of a driveway or garage?
My parking spec leaves me with no option but to leave the car a couple of inches away from a wall or I wouldn’t be able to get out of the car…

It's daft and the only option is to move house I assume for export cars it's still on the wrong side.

I don’t have a garage (at home) and besides, if you don’t lock the car up it never properly shuts down so any more than a few days and the battery will start to deteriorate and eventually discharge itself altogether won’t it? I have had this very problem when parked in my garage. LRA were very patient and help me clear the whole of the drivers side garage, then put lots of foam sheets around the front and N/S of the car and jacked it up on a trolley jack and swung it over in the garage.
I think an emergency slot should be in the boot panel somewhere and the front grill.
I always have to park in the garage and leave the window open enough that if it goes to sleep I can reach in and insert the fob.
Its a pain in the ar.. idea of these going to sleep ! My jaguars never suffered with this carp idea.

i'm sure the RAC and such like have trolly dollys that can be put on each wheel, lift the car up and roll it one way or another

Its a bad design, but can't really be put elsewhere as its a mechanical unlock not a electronic one, so you would have to put it on the boot or another door, what if you can not open the boot due to reversing up to the wall, like i do and have a dog cage in like i do,

Ugh? Why can’t it be on the driver’s door, I mean, that’s the door you get in and out of, so it’s always going to be available to get in and out of and therefore the problem wouldn’t arise.
Come to think of it, my previous TWO cars had a similar setup, both emergency locks were on the DRIVERS DOOR! (Mercedes and Porsche)
The passenger door may have a mechanical lock but it opens just the same as my driver’s door does when I use the remote? Am I missing something??? Or is it just a complete f*** up by LR!

The whole problem is that, the UK drives on the wrong side of the road and all vehicles are designed for world distribution with just a modified design for the UK  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

YEP, as i suspected... Good for LHD cars...

BAD for RHD! For a car that's built in the UK it SUCKS! How do you explain the Porsche and the Merc setup then!

For the LHD, the mechanical lock is at the driver's side.

Just like on the MINI Estate version thing where the rear access door is on the drivers side in the UK but passenger side for those who drive on the other side of the road. Often referred to as the suicide door in UK as rear seat passengers have to exit into traffic.
