Seems it was closed when trying to start then.  Previous Series III, Defender, Discovery 300 and TD5 owner.

Hi Sergio977. Finally got around to pulling throttle body apart. Quite easy really.

Sure enough small bits of white and black plastic under the gear attached to the butterfly shaft.
There were no teeth missing. The pieces were from the very end of the semicircular gear.
Looks like it must hit an end stop within the plastic case which had also broken off.

All back together now and still working fine. Was full of oil though so a new one will be on order soon.

you found the EXACT situation as mine!

Also in mine no theet was missed but a chip from the end of the semicircular gear blocked the butterfly shaft.

I removed the piece and worked fine for some weeks: the necessary time to order the new one ( 2 days) and waiting for the inspiration to take the old out again ( some weeks )

I just replaced my throttle body (thanks to Dan @ Duckworths,) the gears were badly stripped on mine but I think it must have been that way for some time, there was no noise from it other than the faint sound of the drive motor running for a few minutes after tuning off, it appears that it's trying to drive the actuator to it's limit stops to calibrate it and failing because of the missing gear teeth.



Anyway all is well now and no more faults reported

Just had my throttle body replaced today, didn't realise how noisy the shutdown was until it's been replaced, loads better!

I'm looking for a stl model of this gear (for 3d print).

You might struggle a bit with 3D printing the final gear, ISTR it has some springy metal contacts moulded into the back of it, they're used to make contact with a potentiometer or switch embedded in the main moulding.

Changed my Throttle Body on Saturday after getting code P02E5 repeatedly. Ordered it from Dan@Duckworths late Thur and it arrived Friday. Thanks Dan, brilliant service.

Having got the old one off, you could see that the butterfly was stuck firmly in the middle position. The result of changing the throttle body is that pick up is better now. I thought it was good before but now there is instant power, no hesitation at all and the outcome is that everything seems smoother. The most obvious result is the where I used to get a bit of diesel “shudder” on switch off, there is nothing now. You switch off, and the engine just stops! Remarkable. My Throttle Body has obviously been bad for quite a long time. I expect fuel consumption may drop a bit now as well.

Many thanks to emjay for his step by step instructions. Made the job much easier. Still took me about 2 hours but I'm not known for working fast!

Has anyone came closer to any supplier of these gears?? My first thought is that these might be manufactured by 3D printing??

If anyone has a set of broken gears and are willing to send them to me, I will have these reverse-engineered and check for the possibility to have them 3D printed.

Had the same rattle before ignition and after shuddering engine turn off. Really was quite loud and noticed low engine oil. Added a litre of light 15-40w for Tdi and noise and rattle has stopped. In the end I had it replaced for 240 euros and the shuddering has gone. Should I expect better fuel economy now?
