Thanks for the reply. You confirmed what I suspected. The relative low price of these items also suggests modest performance at best. I think they are more about styling than improved output.

I use them as additional driving lights on our narrow unlit country roads. They pick out the edges very well that's why I want them as bright as possible.

The more I think about your symptoms the more it sounds like Autobox (Flaring?) and not the Haldex (as it is designed to slip to varying degrees under electronic control)

The XC60 is on my " replacement " list alongside the XC40..
