I had a similar problem with a Ford C-Max I had. Would only get interference with charger plugged in in poor FM signal areas.
Proved to be a poor cheap charger. Must have been feeding something back ... |

You will need the 7s socket fitted to car.

I had exactly the same thing with a Ford C-Max 2.0 tdci which is a version of the same engine. Totally random.
Not had it with Freelander though, yet...... |
