I also used a gates kit (the belt I removed was a gates)

It is recommended that you fit a new bolt, the old one will have threads stretched.
As you experienced, it was very tight.

The disk is not being read either disk or reader is at fault.
Copied disks are prone to misread (not in your case)
Try a dvd cleaner kit
It is the cheapest 1st option

I think access to a press is useful, but of course necessity is the mother of invention.
The PDF gives enough information to know if the job is a D.I.Y or entrust to a workshop.

I changed at around 96k, belt and pulleys looked ok but pump was showing signs of wear.
