Legoman, you beat me! You would also need to undo the seat belt from the seat if you elect to take the whole seat out.

Good morning Iain, you don't have to remove the whole seat. The drivers side base is fixed by 4 bolts, the passenger only 2.

I did remove that section, and cleaned it inside and especially around the joint. It looks like the larger Jubilee Clip to be the answer then!
