Updated on Battery issue.
Charged Battery up to 12.8 volts, started no problem with no warning lights.

"whooshing" noises are usually the first sign of a splot in the intercooler hose which can be extremely hard to find when not under load.
I'd bet that is what is wrong

33-35 tops on a run. I can get high 30's if I keep it sensible.

Ummm.. LR say 10 years or 150,000 so it was overdue, but does depend on the type of use.
A lot of heavy town driving or towing will reduce it.
