I am thinking it is the projector type but not 100% sure.

The bearing must have been in contact with oil so that should rule corrosion out. It could be material fault or the local stress exceeds the strength of the bearing.

I got gearbox fault traction reduced message. My car is MY13 with R18 wheel. Was repaired under warranty, new haldex pump and fluid changed at 44K miles.

I have been on the ferry Postmouth - Santander to and back twice a year in the last 2 years and each time I double locked the car and never had any problem on these 24hours crossings.
