Can I suggest that before you buy a new CPS you take a look at the plug/socket - the seal may have been compromised and corrosion set in.

Cost wise £40k rising to above £50k is in line with the Disco Sport, so about right for a FL2 replacement. The FL2 wasn't a cheap car when it was new.
