United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

Thanks for your responses, I feel better knowing that this may be a more know about fault!

That said, it was the worst it's ever been today, had a number of jolts and on one the car lost power for a couple of seconds and the warning "Reduced Engine Performance" came up for the first time. This was on a busy motorway doing 70, rev counter dropped by 300rpm and suddenly lost a bit of speed because of this. Taking it easy with the car now until it's resolved!

I normally use a local land rover specialist mechanic to service my car, but with a problem like this i'm not sure if they'll have the technical know how particularly if it's to do with a drive chain sensor or if it needs a software update etc as they are more used to fixing older LRs. At the same time my local LR dealer wants 180 just to look at my car and this doesn't guarantee they'll diagnose the problem! Might have to take the hit and go to LR....

MINE WAS ALSO A CRANK SHAFT SENSOR - RAC MANAGED TO CLEAN IT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, HAD A NEW ONE REPLACED DAY AFTER AND NO FURTHER PROBLEMS...

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Zermatt Silver

instead of raising a new thread, I have tagged onto this one, similar /same problem.

rarely used car since March, ¼ tank of diesel left in since last filled up, had a couple of short trips ie 6 or 7 miles, car goes perfectly well, then suddenly it jolts ferociously a few times, very like someone slamming the brakes on, no error messages no obvious signs of faults. . . .

QUESTION : - Am I being too optimistic in thinking its only because of lack of use, and perhaps a fresh tank of diesel and a good 50 mile trip would cure it.???

Reading this post, I see 2 possible causes, the EGR valve or the Crankshaft sensor, I have no great desire to rush out and get it fixed at present, but out of interest what would be a good source for a reasonable EGR valve price if that were the culprit , I see prices vary from maybe £50 - £250 . . . ( Censored ridiculous).

I have also read that if it is the EGR valve, it would probably have a very rough idle, which mine does not.

Thanks for listening . . . ???? Or maybe not as it appears no-one has . . . . Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter . . . 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

@ Northcroft,

I had this months ago, you would notice it more after gearchanges (auto), it was the crank sensor. I used a bluetooth OBD and a mobile phone app called garage pro (android) and it said crankshaft sensor fault code, deleted it, I driven it for a few days and as soon as the jolt was felt again the code had reappeared. It has been fine since, never driven so well.
