Why the 50 mph max speed limit when you run on the spare wheel? What are the implications of travelling 70 +?
Did a search, couldn't find anything.

I think its the speed rating, saying that there not space savers are they?

It's something to do with the bolt been for alloys I believe, been covered a few times on here

I had a spare on at 60mph for a few hours and mile from Scotland a few years back, towing without any problems Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The steel wheel has coutersunk or chamfered facings to mate up behind the bolt-head, alloys have a flat facing,
when you fix the steel wheel on using the bolts meant for alloys you only gat a small contact area behind the bolt-head and it is not es secure.
The steel wheel also has a different mass to the alloys and upsets the cars axle load balance side to side.

One of my first buys after acquiring my FL2 was a second set of SE wheels. Primarily to fit a set of winter tyres; also to replace the "useless" "space saver" spare wheel as I tow a caravan. Yes, looking at it again, I would say your right....it seems logical it's the bolts in conjunction with the steel wheel. Thanks for the replies people.
