how come everything that can be dangerous if used incorrectly gets banned , except caravans.

Not everything, bloody tractors and kamikazee drivers with unmaintained, filthy towing equipment are still allowed to bully other vehicle drivers after splattering them with mud, and forcing them off the road with the 'I'm bigger than you, so f Censored off out the way'.
Also they think putting a cardboard sign up saying 'Mud on Road' satisfies the legal requirement for a slippery surface while waiting for the rain to arrive.

its not drivel is an excellent road safety idea, let vehicle with commercial running gear transport your mobile holiday apartments.

Tommorrow I will be driving around 140miles total on the queens highway with a tractor and trailer outfit using air brakes (with hydraulic reserve brakes) and commercial HGV brakes on the trailer (hired in for the few days), farmers have adapted to safety concerns, how much have caravan brakes altered over the decades. At work

If it ain't broke why fix it

Whats wrong with van brakes ? They work, year after year, minimum maintenance -no leaky hydraulics, no unnessesary servo, just grease the cables and hitch, and once a year shift the spiders out of the drums.

Even a 10 year old 1200kg van like ours makes the 1900kg FL2 sit down when the brakes come on.

But if we are to question towing in general
a 1900kg FL2 has a towing limit of 2000kg - fair enough clutches being what they are.
Why do certain caravanning / motoring organisations rant on about an imaginary 85% match? When Morris Oxfords were the norm with drum brakes all round(servo- whats that sir?) it possibly made sense.
Can't blame CG and his allies if so called informed motoring organisations are stuck in the 60s

As an aside saw either a Morris Oxford or an Austin Cambridge towing a van on the M56 last week - never could tell them apart from a distance. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Pulling over loaded grain trailers, why not use a proper LGV to do the job instead of holding up the traffic with tractors, oh no you can't as you would require an LGV Licence, a Operators Licence and be governed by drivers hours and rest periods Rolling Eyes

Shame I might had opted for F, black bag over head, beaten to a pulp and removing thumbs of each hand so he can't use his lighter, then poured petrol on his knackers and burn the :censored:ers to a crisp Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
