5th Service and Extended warranty advice

Hi,
Im having a 5th service done by a main dealer who will do it for £300 instead of the £384 quoted. The vehicle is out of manufacturers warranty but still in a Land Rover 'extended warranty' until dec (as this completes the 12 months from when i bought it).

Now is there something i should be asking them to take a look at more closely as this will be (unless obvious) the last time i get to have any warranty work done. I'm thinking about a rear diff noise (which i thought i'd heard a while back) etc.

There is also another part of me that thinks they'll go over the top to find warranty work... but am happy to stand corrected Smile

Any help/advice is appreciated (as always)

Many thanks,
Chris

Clutch and flywheel problems on the manual. General niggly electrical problems. Not sure about specific problems but I suppose that depends on what problems have cropped up for you during ownership.

If you are thinking about extending the warranty again, warranty direct guarantee to beat manufacturer prices and even do options that cover wear and tear. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Thanks, I'll ask them to focus on this.

Its an approve land rover warranty for the next 4 months but unlikely to be extending it with another once it finishes.

Problem maybe unless the parts have failed or at least failed enough they won't get authorization to

Clutch issues are a well-known problem and diff nose bearings are not rare - I've had both sorted under warranty.
If it's warranty work, they can find as much as they want, I just don't like them finding things that are not under warranty.
By the way, with the known history, unless you have exraordinary mileage, clutch and diff are not wear and tear.
Talk to a few people about Warrnany Direct before you jump in - I've heard reports from independent garages and my LR dealer that the cover is not always as watertight as the ads claim, especially the wear and tear aspect. I considered them very carefully but got a LR extended warranty for the same price (to the pound). Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Vindicated on the Diff Noise

Update.
Decided to shop around for the 5th service which is normally approx £385. I had to do a bit of haggling but eventually got these prices. Stratstone in Newport quoted £279, Chester £349, Conwy £305.
I decided to take the vehicle to Conwy, they took me into Llandudno (as they are in Llandudno Junction) and had half a day out Smile

Upon handing them the key I was asked if there were any issues. I mention that i'd previously reported a bit of a diff whine to Chester LR. They put their 'diff' specialist on to it who reported all was well.
I also mentioned the handbrake wasn't that good and i had to apply it and then one more click to get it to 'really' hold.

Long story short the service went well with them reported that it needed the diff bearings changing (vindication) and the quadrants on the park brake needed changing as they were partially seized. Both were covered under the LR Extended (approved) Warranty.

Car was fully valeted and i couldn't have asked for a more professional outfit Thumbs Up for Conwy Landrover Smile

Maffs ... if you're "still there" ... very interested to read your comment about the handbrake operation. My FL2 is only c 19 months old but it struck me when I got it a few months ago that the handbrake was really quite hard to operate. You pull it up to a fairly "hard" level, only to find it isn't fully on and needs another real pull to engage properly. Does make me wonder how well it would hold with full load on a steep slope.

This prompts me to drop in at the dealer's and comment on this & hopefully get it checked even though it's second service was only in August and I didn't report it then thinking it must be poor design.

Hi Mike,
You issue mirrors what mine was experiencing. Took the vehicle in for a service and mentioned the handbrake operation. When i arrived to pick it up the dealer at Llandudno Junction said the handbrake mechanism 'ceases' (not sure which parts). The entire mechanism was changed under warranty. Whilst they were doing this they change the rear disks and pads labour free.

From what was said this was definitely 'something' the dealer was experienced in.

Hope this helps,

Thanks maffs ... yes I will take this up when back in the UK. Also has me speculating whether there could be any link to mpg being a fair bit down compared to others posting here. But that might be too much to hope!

as for the stiff handbrake it will be the hand brake expanders seized up. As a side note the same expanders could seize and cause a drag on the handbrake reducing mpg.

its not foolish to 3/4 pull the handbrake on while driving every now and again to warm it up, polish the friction surfaces and heat it up drying out the moisture trapped within. they do seem to corrode badly if not used hard At work

That was my experience with Warranty Direct; when two wheel bearings failed, WD denied that there was any wear and tear cover and they rejected my claim, despite having sold me the policy on the basis of it having full wear and tear cover! They eventually agreed they were wrong, but would only pay for one.

I wouldn't ever use them again.

Just had a quote from Marshalls of Bedford - £413.53 inc. VAT but not MoT. A bit higher than some quotes I've seen, but I'd expect labour to be a bit cheaper in the far-flung provinces... They do say they will match any quote from an Official LR workshop within 50 miles, which probably means there aren't any.
I think I'll go with them as i bought the car from them and their service has been fine in the past.
