mate I know use the boot unlock feature on vans so they can back up a drive way when working in someones house and have the back unlocked to get tools out, whilst having the front doors locked so passers-by dont steal their mars bars, copy of the sun etc etc. At work

as a foot note to my post, I have fitted a new boot lock switch, on inspection it seems the factory now apply a sealant between the rubber cover & the plastic body of the switch(to waterproof it) in addition to this I have smeared a bead of plumbers sealant (LSX) around the joint as added protection from ingress of moisture, hope this prevents further problems.
