Cleaning Concrete Garage Floor

I have been out to sweep the garage floor today as I am wanting to seal and paint it

Problem is when the have layer the garage floor and given it's rough effect like you get when you level concrete with a plank of wood, the they are filled with dirt/mud/dust etc as over the years (prior to me buying it) with the driveway sloping towards it, rain water has washed in assorts of Censored

So I have swept it - took up surface dust
Swept is with stif brush - took alittle in ground dirt out
Used a wire brush - did the job but time consuming with it been on 1" wide on a 20'x9' floor

My thought is to jet wash/patio clean but there is no were for the water to drain and this will take forever to dry Sad

Will a floor swept as much as possible and pva'ed be able to have the self leveling screed put on it and stay intact or will it best to use a coat of pva and then concrete over it again

I just can't think of a way to clean it without tons of water and then having a soaking wet garage for ages Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Stood by me Barbie think in on this Wink

Maybe there is a quick way round this and just rubber tile over the top of a self leveling screed

That way if the screed hasn't stuck to the mud it should stay in place with the matting on top Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I think yours must be in more of a state than ours when we painted it. We just swept, they don't need to be prepared as much as say your house walls.

Isn't your garage floor on a slight angle for water to drain out? It should be then it'll dry pretty quickly! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Not sure if level tbh, but doesn't seem to be a drain hole at the back, there's a door to the rear at the side but thats raised, to the front I have sealed it with a 6x2 piece of wood to prevent water running in as the grate at front can't handle torrential down pours

So no were to brush the water Big Cry Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Following your OP - I'd sweep as much as you can and then I'd PVA the floor to seal in any 'cr Censored p' which has built up over the years. Mixed the PVA with water. 5 parts water to 1 pva. Screwfix sells PVA quite cheap. It'll dry within an hour or so in these weather conditions.

A friend who's a tiler puts PVA and water down and then screeds Self Lever over the top even before it dries. He's never had a problem in the last 15 years.

Prime the floor with appropriate paint and then re-paint the colour you'd prefer it to be Smile.

I think I'll Hoover once I have brushed as much as I can

I got the ryobi out yesterday with it's leaf blower attachment blowing at 300mph to blow the dust out, stood at back with goggles and a dust mask I suddenly felt I was in Saudi in a storm, covered in it head to toe, Laughing

Then had to blow the wifes car clean with it Wink

So suck instead of blowing is the next idea Embarassed Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If you keep it to a few mm it will be completely dry within 24 hours (even sooner in hot weather)

Best of luck

If you can get most of the water out put a couple of dehumidifiers in there.

Pour brick acid over the floor, rinse well then use the leaf blower to blast the last bits of water out of the garage, keep the spare brick acid, some people like to use it as an alloy wheel cleaner Shocked

then paint a pretend inspection pit on the garage floor so your neighbours all think your a proper petrol head. At work
