Parking sensors problem

Hi to all

Yesterday I had my first crash with my car(not an important damage). As I was reversing I hit a car which was parked few meters behind. The sensors didn't work. The other car had a silver shiny plastic grill in front.
Does anybody knows if the silver of the grill cause my sensors not to worked??? FREELANDER 2 2.2 Td4 Auto, Sport LE 5dr

I wouldnt have thought so, I have reversed up to many cars with chrome fronts

Did they not work and you got the warning light on the dash or reverse too fast or not break in time after the warning beep Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The sensors used are the ultrasonic type and type/make/colour/reflectiveness of the object won't make a difference, if an object is there it should sense it.

Simple answer:

Reversing sensors are a "reversing aid"

I would NEVER solely rely on them without using my own visual judgement.

You could always strap some of CG's chickens to the back - when they become quiet stop reversing Whistle

Mind you - you might get the Animal Rights Activists on your case - then you could use one of them instead.

Alternatively make sure the sensor casing is kept clean - can make a big difference. 2002 Honda VFR800

the button on the dash flashes if there is a fault, not sure what happens if you have no button though (i.e just rear sensors) I presume you don't get the confirmation beep Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Correct young man, a fault is indicated by no confirmation beep.

Along the same lines mine today just makes one long bleep and the light on the dash comes on anyone know what that might be (it does not flash though) TD4 HSE Auto

Sorry, I was confirming the 'lower spec' GS that only has rear sensors Sad no light, no flash and no beep when there is a fault, just a loud bang when you hit the wall.

Mine sometimes take a while to come on - especially immediately after start up. Just when I need them to unpark. I've almost been caught a couple of times, so now force myself to listen for the beep.
Must say I worry that I rely too much on them - don't know how I'd manage to park without them now!

On my MY10 GS Manual, when I put gear stick into reverse there is a loud beep and the radio mutes.
If there is no obstruction behind the radio reverts to normal until I approach said obstacle, then the radio mutes and the beeping starts.

I don't know if anything lights up on the dash as I'm normally looking backwards. I tend to go where I'm looking! Very Happy
