LR extended warranty or 3rd party (Which?)

My HSE is coming up for 3 in October this year, so it will be out of Warranty. Is it worth while taking the LR extended warranty or if not, which of the numerous 3rd party warranty companies are any good?Would appreciate folk's advice / experience in this matter.

Cheers in advance.

Car is also booked in to Strathearn Engineering at Aberuthven for it's 3rd service, they look and sound good, anyone had any experience there? FL2 HSE Tonga Green and Clio Sport 182 (Hers!)Milltek exhaust ,Speedline Turinis.

The last time I bought an extended warranty (for a 3 year old Cooper S), I went with Warranty Direct. It was half the price of the manufacturer's own extended warranty and (in the T's & C's) apparently covered more.

However, when it came to my one and only claim, the dealer's service department rolled their eyes as soon as they saw that it was Warranty Direct. They insisted that I pay for the work first and then attempt to claim it back from WD.

My car had two dead wheel bearings (at 48,000 miles and just under 3 1/2 years old), but the dealer recommended changing just one as they said that WD would never entertain the replacement of both bearings!

WD then threw out my claim on the grounds that it was "fair wear and tear", even though one of the selling points of their warranty was that it included wear and tear items! After a great many phone calls, I found just one person in Customer Services who could see my point and then, many weeks after I'd started fighting, I finally got my £250 back. Without his help, I may have got nowhere.

I could have afforded to lose £250, but what if had needed a new engine? Would I have had to borrow £6,000 first on the hope that WD might have agreed to refund me?

I shall never go back to WD again.

I had the 4th year extended waranty. Had to make a claim. Easy - just booked it in at my local LR dealer. All dealt with just like the original 3 years warranty. Peace of mind - easy claim, not forms etc. Okay at the end of the year it would have been cheaper to have paid for the repair, BUT then it might have been an expensive item that went wrong.

At least we have a choice of options.

Thanks Guys, so much for using old Quentin as the face of WD, still suck then!! As you say Nazca, we do have a choice.WD wanted over £600 for the warranty, not had a quote from LR yet, may just go free and hope... FL2 HSE Tonga Green and Clio Sport 182 (Hers!)Milltek exhaust ,Speedline Turinis.

I have a 07 plate Freelander 2 GS. I looked into Warranty Direct, but found Landrovers own extended warrantly is cheaper and better.

Take out just the Extended Warranty (Premium version which covers everything as per Manufacturer warranty) and it is £55 per month (10 monthly payments by direct debit) total of £550. You pay more if you want the Landrover assistance, but I have RAC cover for family for that.

Dealer just treats it as a normal car under warrany. They do prefer you to have it serviced by them, otherwise they want to know details of servicing and so on.

Mine has been into dealers for repairs to Radio/CD system twice now, first time they had the car for a week as it had to be sent to specialist car auto electricians, got a hire car (Landrover Discovery 3) all paid for by landrover and arranged by dealer. Can't complain, will be taking out the landrover extended warranty again next year without a doubt.
Didn't have to shell out and claim back anything really good and hassle free.

Thanks for that, made a bit of a boob too, it's warranty wise that Old Quetin Wilson fronts not warranty direct. I'll look into the LR warranty, got a quote from warranty wise of £670ish

Have used them before. Much cheaper than any 'local' dealers, and arguably, a better service from them, as they strip + clean brakes as part of the service. Big thumbs up from me Thumbs Up

Also, while on the subject of WD, and Quentin Wilson, you should head over to the Disco3 site, and search there. A member DaveT (or similar) has an ongoing saga with them.
£3000 for 6 injectors, rejected.
Replacement engine, Rejected.

Its a worthy read if you are considering using WD Whistle

Cheers Mikey, I had noticed a few issues with some folks and warranty Direct, not seen so many issues with Warranty Wise, but will check with Pentland and Morrisons and see what the LR extended warranty is. FL2 HSE Tonga Green and Clio Sport 182 (Hers!)Milltek exhaust ,Speedline Turinis.

Thakns for this thread guys as I am in the same situation with 3rd birthday just days away.
I've got prices from Warranty Wise, Warranty Direct and LR. Surprise surprise, WD has a special price of £550 instead of £664 on the web calulation, which happens to be the exact price of LR Approved warranty.
The wear and tear bit on things like wheelbearings and bushes would be the WD selling feature I would go for but so many seem to find that the exclusions apply, I think I'll either go LR or put £550 aside incase something significnt goes.
As I've had a new clutch/DMF and, very recently, a diff nose bearing, maybe I'll buy the peace of mind.
Somebody should tell Honest John and the Daily Telegraph about WD as they have hsi enodrsement as they are the only warranty firm he has not had bad reporte about - seems we know different! Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Thanks for this thread as I'm in the same situation, 3rd birthday is days away!
I have quotes from Warranty Wise, Warranty Direct and LR. Surprise surprise, WD is chasing my business with a better-than-the web price of £550 (came up initially as £664) which is exactly the LR price without LR Assist (I have AA). I was down to WD vs. LR but maybe should put £550 away in case I need a big repair.
As I've had a clutch/DMF and very recently a diff nose bearing, I think I'll buy the peace of mind with LR -seems like the best bet.
Someone should tell Honest John and Daily Telegraph about WD, they trade on the endorsement he gives as the only warranty company he has not had bad reports about! - you seem to know different Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

I got a quote from warranty direct just to see what it would cost, they quoted my almost £900 but worst still, when they sent the comformation through to me. 1, they got the registration wrong, 2, it was a quote for a two wheel drive car, 3, fuel type was petrol, 4, the cover I wanted was wrong.
It seems to me that they didnt listen to a word I said to them over the phone and wanted to sting me for every thing they could. With such poor conduct on their part I thought I would give them a miss. Took great delight in telling them so when they next rang me. bloody amatures. Rolling with laughter

I was over at the Highland Show on Sunday, had a brief chat with a bloke from Land Rover UK. Reckon that I will simply go with LR, it's pretty well priced in comparison and at least you know where you stand! Other than that, warranty wise seem pretty keen for my business. I have had one claim on my warranty with LR and it all went smoothly. Better the devil you know I feel! I did rather expect them to be prohibitively expensive, pleasantly surprised. FL2 HSE Tonga Green and Clio Sport 182 (Hers!)Milltek exhaust ,Speedline Turinis.

I've asked LR to send me the Direct Debit forms so I can sign up. 10x£55 a month to pay for the year (0% interest) and "Approved" full cover. I'll let you know if I need to claim. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Hi All,
Quick question, will LR do an extended warranty if you bought the (4 yr old) LR2 from an independent garage?

Cheers.
