Air Conditioning

Hi
My air conditioning has started to make a metallic rattle noise, it is still working but is annoying, if turned to Econ or off it stops, any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Could be a pulley bearing either on the drive or the compressor. Similar thing happened to mine, sounded like a helicopter landing. All mechanical parts of the aircon system replaced, thankfully under warranty. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

Yes a bit like a helicopter, it sounds expensive, mine is well out of warranty! Big Cry Current 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Black 2016 Onwards

Sounds as if the clutch on the aircon pump is dying - mine failed at 18 months (10K ish).
The clutch can usually be bought seperately, but if your aircon pump has recently been replaced there may be a case for discussion with the garage.

labour is likely to be as expensive as the parts. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

most likely compressor clutch going out-at least the compressor is on top of the engine (on I6)...

Well it is the air conditioning compressor, question is should it not last longer than 4 and a bit years? Current 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Black 2016 Onwards

I for one would like them to last longer, after having them fail on the last three vehicles. - all under 3 years old.

Use it /don't use it you loose both ways.
If you use the aircon the compressor wears out.
If you don't use the aircon (then whynot?) the bearing on the clutch wears out. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
