running in procedure

hi I am awaiting a new freelander 2 and wonder if someone will check their handbook to see how many miles you should run the car before towing, other cars I have had have varied between 500 - 1500 miles

your handbook will say 1000 miles.
My freelander turned up 5 days before we were due to tow to Italy so each evening I went out and drove a carefull 250 miles, which i mixed with country and motorway ! cost me a fortune at 23mpg ! Glad to say it improved by 9000 miles and has now vastly improved.
Good luck and enjoy

If I remember correctly, 500 miles and basically dont let it labour or race the gears. Nothing more to it. Not like cars of yester year when they had 'running in' stickers on the back and you couldn't do this and that etc.

The handbook actually states 1000 miles before towing ! so if you were unlucky enough to break down whilst towing and the clock reads under 1000 miles then there is L/R's first opt out clause !
Its a bit anorackish but i also keep all my fuel reciepts and only buy from a well known branded fuel so they dont ever try and use the poor fuel opt out card iether ! Thumbs Up

OLGEEZER or anybody else.

I have a MY11 sd4. I checked the other day for towing restrictions on new engine, but could't find anything.

What page or heading was your information on - or has the MY11 instructions changed from 2008?

Around page 6 under 'Introduction'

Quote:
RUNNING-IN
The engine, transmission, tyres, and brakes
need time to bed-in. During the first 800 km
(500 miles) it is essential that the vehicle is
driven with consideration for the running-in
process. During the running in period the
following advice should be followed.
• Limit the engine speed to a maximum of
3000 rpm, and the road speed to a
maximum of 110 km/h (68 mph).
• Do not use full accelerator pedal travel, and
use the gears to avoid over-revving or
labouring the engine.
• Do not use sport mode during the running
in period.
• Avoid rapid acceleration or heavy braking
wherever possible.

I hope I am not having a 'very senior moment',
but I still cannot find any reference in my handbook to running-in ect.
My handbook edition is marked 2010. (208 pages).

My handbook is also the 2010 edition for my SD4 MY11, I'm at work at the moment but remember it being in the early pages. The 'cut and paste' is from the 2010 online Owners manual. http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree2viewlrprod/index.jsp
