Can someone in very simple terms please advise what oil I need for a FL2 2007?

Just want a litre to top up - so not too fussed about price. But if I go into a garage / Halfords etc, what do I need to look for / buy?

I once had a bloke ask me for help on a French campsite. He had topped up his engine oil with nearly 5 litres and it was overflowing the filler cap. He said that he usually did a lot of short journeys and it used about a litre every couple of weeks so having driven 500 miles down through France in one go he tried to put a whole 5L can in! The engine was locked solid. As no one had a drain plug wrench (who takes that on holiday?) we managed to undo the oil filter a little and filled a couple of washing up bowls enough to release about 8 litres to get the engine moving. YES...not ruined engine/DPF/CAT but very annoyng situation with my sister's 2008 Opel ( Vauxhall) 1.3 CDTI DPF Meriva: with the "wrong oil", the DPF required a lot of regen, the oil level raised over the max level for several times so, after few regen, I was always obliged to due a oil+filter changes.

Finally ( I taked several months to understand the problem was the oil ) after several oil+filter changes, I changed the oil quality as per GM spec. and the DPF stop to be boring.


The "wrong" oil was very good oil but out of GM/Opel/Vauxhall spec.: it was perfect on my brother's 320d E90, on my old 1.5 DCI Renault engine, on my wife's Honda, my mom's Honda, sister's husband BMW....but not suitable for DPF equipped cars

YES But would you buy a £700 + I-phone then buy a charger from a retailer that sells them for a £1
and expect it to work fine , or sue the shop for selling faulty goods .....???

the "problem" is not the price: you can buy the most expensive oil but if it's out of spec for your engine, you'll have problems with the DPF

I only have available this selection of engine oil in my region South Africa parts store and can't find Shell Helix HX7 Professional 5W-30, Castrol MAGNATEC A1 5W-30, which of the below is suitable to use on my 2011 freelander 2 2.2 diesel?

1-Castrol GTD magnetic 5W-40
2-Shell Helix Ultra ECT C3 5W-30
3-Galp Formula longline III 5W-30

Also automatic transmission and PS can't find with landrover specs

Most good and large oil companies offer a web based technical / email service, Castrol do for UK and Millers oils in UK as an example. I would suggest you email them or similar companies as you are limited in choice and remember what works in UK may not be the same SAE for your area so we are not best placed to comment.

Secret if you struggle to get a better answer would I guess be use a SAE 5-30 and change it every 6,000 miles . Try and get a C1 oil and you wont be far wrong. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

It is quite hard to hunt for the ford WSS-M2C913-B spec oil but easy to find SAE 5W-30 ACEA C3 of reputable Brands, you have mentioned C1, will C3 be a problem ? I don't mind the early service as we have high surplus diesel here And owner's handbook advise early service. Thank you I will ring the distributor

3 magic letters – DPF – needs an oil meeting WSS-M2C-934B . So if you have the DPF that is the spec.

No DPF much more plain sailing.

Go to http://www.opieoils.co.uk/ (sponsor) and put in search WSS-M2C-934B, gives you some idea of what you can use in UK for a DPF fitted motor. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Yes, as I explained in earlier contributions, the Ford recommended motor oil as per A1 specification is in my opinion NOT good enouth (spelling ok?) for our high-tech diesel engine. Any motor oil which will meet A3/A4 or B3/B4 or higher will be suitable. The TD4 without DPF is happy to receive the same motor oil as used for petrol engines, as long as the above ACEA-norm is met.
