FL2 Split leather in seat, anyone else experianced this ?

Hi all
Am new here and looking for advice
My FL is not yet 2 years old and has just been in for 2nd 30K service.
My dealer says its not covered by warranty, have done a bit of research and only managed to find this, its virtually identical to my split. Freel2.com - View topic - Seat Split
Has anyone any experience of this issue and an idea of what a SSM is ?
Thank you.

Mine was replaced under warranty. I may add that i have a more 'vertical' split. All was taken care of by James Edwards, Chester.

The dealer is talking nonsense. The seat is covered by the 3 year unlimited mileage warranty. The only difference is that if the car is under six months, they will replace all seats so that the shade is all the same, on a 2 year old car they will only change the seat damaged. However you might have an argument as to how the split occurred...

Mine is going in this month for a new seat base cover. The service staff knew all about the issue with seat splits. Yes it is covered under the 3 year warranty.

The item is covered under the following Special Service message;
SSM46337 - Freelander 2 leather seat side panel splits - Service parts

If they still deny knowledge of it, print this topic out and quote the SSM to them. Thumbs Up Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

Thanks all, they are going to call me tomorrow, see what they say, it was serviced last week and they said that it was not covered, but now I am armed and ready.

If all else fails maybe the forum members can create a list of dealers that will honour the warranty and replace the seat base cover???...
James Edwards, Chester certainly did mine

This may be old news but I happened to notice, whilst nosing around in the showrooms, that leather seats on the latest cars have "chamois" patches at strategic locations.

Is this to counter the splitting problem or for another reason?

I think its where the leather dries out and the constant compression eventually splits it.

Since having mine replaced i've started conditioning the leather to ensure it stay supple Smile

Trouble is though I have found out its not leather but sprayed vinyl on the bottom part of seat, workshop controller at my local dealer told me this. Clever trick by Landrover as I thought it was leather till now, but if you pinch it together it is totally smooth as opposed to the upper section which is I hope leather.

I also have noticed one of these tears on the side of drivers seat.
I bought my FL2 last year when it was 3 years old albeit with 12 months warranty.
Will I not be covered for the replacement? Question FL2 07 HSE Zermatt Silver
