United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
New SD4 HSE

Hi all

I picked up my new Freelander on Saturday, very pleased with, although not driven it much.

Will upload some photos soon.

One question I have is the exhaust, not very good looking and I wondered if there any chrome tail pipe trim that's available as have seen better on older models. ?

Cheers
Pete

Fitted one on mine, picture in the Gallery, some like it, some don't but not fussed if they don't. It is designed for the Freelander 2 with the HST body kit so you may think when you fit it that it is to low down, I shortened the tail pipe about an inch so it sits higher. Thumbs Up

No not really, but with other makers having a number of different power plants available in their offerings, limiting the UK to just the one now as the petrol one that sold very little overhere has gone, it seemed natural to me that LR should offer another option.
But the Freelander itself is gaining popularity especially over the last couple of years, could be the harsher winters we have had also with the age now over four years a lot more Freelanders are about averall.

Perhaps you should do a poll though, say all those that have purchased an MY11 did they go for the TD4 or the SD4. Thumbs Up p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Believe me.

Having driven my 2007MY GS TD4 for 6 weeks - if I had the money I'd buy a nearly new one.

The SD4 engine sounds top rated fr4om what I read.

Please take my previous comment as a poor attempt at sarcasm.

Best car I've every driven Thumbs Up I even prefer it to my friends 2005MY D3 Whistle 2002 Honda VFR800

I totally disagree- the SD4 I have is much more economical that my TD4 ever was, 3 outings over 100 miles each and the lowest mpg I have recorded is 40.4mpg - my TD4 never got near that! Even rush hour journeys are acheving 15-20% better mpg. Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

I have seen another members chrome exhaust finisher and didnt like it, as stated it is designed to fit below the HST rear skirt and on the SD4 without the skirt it looks out of place.

Not sure I agree with that, on a long run of 90% motorway I had over 38 to the gallon never had that with the previous manual TD4 and SWMBO is getting 29 around town and again I was not getting that before usually nudging 27 around town. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Are you comparing like with like though, the old TD4 is less economical than the new TD4/SD4

Are these exhausts legal, I thought diesel exhausts had to fire downwards?

Not anymore, BMW have been fitting straight exhausts on their 3 series diesels for a few years now.
