2010 freelander 2 wont start for the fourth time!!

My 2010 Freelander 2 wont start AGAIN!

I have had landrover assist out 3 times, the first time it was jump started and takent to the dealership who hooked it up and said it may have been the radio nut shutting down properly and draining the battery but they couldn't find it.

Second time landrover assist came out, carried out battery checks and reconfigured the body control module with the latest software.

21 days later and it wouldnt start again, was jump started and 2 battery checks done, was advised to call the dealership today!

Called the dealership who said I have to take it in as it could be the radio not shutting down properly!!!! DE JA VOUS! If not they said it could need to be updated wiith the latest software! Am I gonna gave to have this done every three weeks???? AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

Any ideas from anyone out there, I'm at the end of my tether!??? Evil or Very Mad

Do you use a bluetooth handset in the car? I had a flat battery last year which turned out to be the bluetooth not shutting down after I had finished a call. (i was still on the phone when i switched the engine off which maybe confused the cars brain!) Just a thought..

I've heard of starting problems. From faulty starter button to terminals not making the correct contact.

It's annoying, but not 'terminal' Laughing

its worth trying. The AA man couldnt find any fault with my battery and suggested it 'could be' the phone. I switched bluetooth off and didnt have anymore problems!

Another useful tip would be to wait till its dark and systematically open and close each door and the boot in turn to see if the interior lights go off - particularly the boot light.

The AA has a machine to test discharge and another to work out the state of the battery. I speak from the experience of last weekend when the terminals merely needed a quick clean up to work - they looked perfectly clean to me. Prior to that I was pushing the button and it was 'chug' once 'chug' once 'chug' then stop.

Have you double-locked it each time? If you don't press the button twice, or if you unlock and lock the tailgate, the car electrics won't shut down and the battery will drain. Standard problem on older cars, probably the same on the new ones?

Never lock my car when in the locked garage and if not used for a few days it has never suffered from poor starting or flat battery.

I have had problems with mine recently 2007 model, had to be jump started on numerous occasions when left longer than overnight, so replaced the battery seemed fine, then was left over a weekend agin, Monday - flat. It went in for service last week , they thought it would be the boot switch. Phone call later in day your car is ready for collection - battery drain isn't due to boot switch, probably down to your "None Land Rover tow bar".
Took it to tow bar place on Friday, checked it left rear indicator on board staying on, could be due to faulty batch of seals, left for 30 mins, all sorted, faulty seal letting water in had corroded electrics replaced under warranty only fitted 18months ago, apparently a problem with the new 13 pin electrics no drain if water gets in can't get out!
Might be worth getting it checked. Current 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Black 2016 Onwards

G'Day Charlottew9470, Pastmaster is on the money, I had the same problem, a result of me not locking the car since it is kept in a locked garage. Unless you lock the car with the remote, background electronics keep whirring away - same as switching the TV off with the remote rather than by the main switch, it goes to standby rather than "off". It happened to me after 4 days non use but after locking it no problems at all even after several weeks of non use. This was confirmed by Land Rover as the correct procedure and it is certainly not unique to them. However, it would help if they highlighted the fact in the hand book.
Good luck anyway.
