Air Vent knob broken

I dont know how, but I managed to snap the passenger air vent silver knob off. Big Cry

The only way I can see of fixing this is to use tweezers and superglue and hope that I dont mess things up too badly. I tried, albeit for about 10 seconds to take the whole vent out to see if there was an easy way to fix, but didnt manage, and couldnt see any screws or anything like that.

TL:DR - How do you take the passenger air vent out the dash? (thats the one closest to the window)

Thanks...

Dont quote me, but I'd think it pops out with a bit of TLC.

I'm going to guess that you now have the silver bit broken into two pieces. Super glue is probably not first choice.
.
I think the plastic is the same as used on Aurfix model kits. Humbrol make a nice glue bottle with a syringe style fine steel tube for precise application. Model glues like this melt the polystyrene allowing the fusion of both parts.
.
I reccomend to beg borrow or buy a bottle then test it on a hidden area inside the chrome handle. Scratch off a bit of the chrome finish and put a dab of glue on and agitate to see if it has softened the base material. If yes then you have the proper glue.
.
Now you have the task of roving the vent as given above - good luck
.
Kind regards from Fred

I am still missing the lost small black 'U' shaped clip that the silver knob attaches so if any of you kind people have a spare. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

Guys, ignore any thoughts on trying to repair the silver knob.

I broke mine a while ago (passenger side one near the window). The whole unit was about £20 from LR, and takes about 10 minutes to fit.

When I get back home, I'll dig out the part number and price.

The silver knob will not hold together with glue. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Hi Mav,
I was quoted in excess of £45 +VAT for a centre vent so based on your advice I may well get hold of a cheaper side vent and use its knob & clip. Thumbs Up - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

You don't even need to do that. The new vent comes as a complete unit with knob etc, ready to fit.

I am back on Friday so will send you the part number. If you buy the vent assembly and the part underneath, it comes to about £40. But you don't need both bits.

You just need the vent assembly. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

My Freelander was missing a vent knob when I acquired the vehicle and despite searching high and low, could not find a cheap source of either just the knob, the affected vent, or a scrap vent to remove just the knob from. Not unsurprisingly all the breakers I spoke to had vents but no knobs - wonder why Wink

I ended up buying a second hand-vent in the US, getting them to remove the knob and to send it to me in a jiffy bag - cost about £20. One of the most expensive little bits of plastic going Sad

Given the rubbish design and the high failure rate, there appears to be a lucrative market opportunity for some enterprising sole here Whistle

Had the same problem with the passenger side vent when I first bought mine. Also had to re attach the arms to the vent wheels on both the centre vents. Took ages to find a replacement for the passenger side but eventually got one from here.

Why did you get one from the US when they are not at expensive from an LR dealer? Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Hi Mav71, I bought a second hand 2010 Freelander 2 with the silver knobs missing from the side air vents on both the passenger and the driver sidel
Would you happen to still have the part number you mentioned above, as I would love to avoid paying for the whole vent assembly if it's not necessary.

Thank you!

Libor
