Keyfob Reminder

Just another random reminder not to leave your other keyfob(s) in a drawer for too long without using (charging).

Scotland 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Rimini Red

I use one keyfob during the week and the other keyfob at the weekend, different key ring / other keys attached so I know which is which.

I always have both on the go so one dont get left out as I had this problem with my e90....

Except that one of my remotes on the Freel has now broken and does not seam to be able to hold a charge Shocked , much to my annoyance and despite using it frequently...

I'm hoping I can get it replaced on the AU warranty as I dont fancy paying out £200 odd quid for what is effectivly a new battery! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

2 years 10 months, never used since new, so tested it and it works fine!

That seems remarkable!
Since we are guessing what is inside it's difficult to know what's required as far as extending the life of keyfobs. The fact that any rechargeable battery technology is capable of retaining charge for almost 3 years is impressive but I would not be tempted to test the boundaries given the cost of replacement.

I've mentioned before that if anyone wants to donate a dead fob for dissection I will do so to learn more about the technology used while trying to revive the fob. So Captain Worm, if you get nowhere with your dud I'm happy to book it in for an operation.

Actually, a thought occurred. When you say it worked after 2yr 10m do you mean it was able to unlock the car or just worked in the dock?

Thanks AndyT Thumbs Up - I'm gonna give the dealers a go first but if the dont come up trumps i'll be giving you a shout

I seam to recall someone else doing it on here but I cant seam to see the post... if I remember rightly it is just a standard Li ION battery soldered in and then sealed in the plastic key housing. As long as you break the key housing carefully and resolder a new batery you can glue it back together and it should work Thumbs Up Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints
