Hey all,

Having had the Freelander a couple of weeks, I have only ever given it a quick wash and chamois on the day I collected it (it is second hand remember).

When I did clean it, I was impressed with how well it cleaned up. The paint work obviously has a layer of wax on it, the windows repelled water brilliantly as did the plastic trims and it all came up looking like new.

I am hoping to give it a bit of a thorough clean this weekend and wondered what others used on their cars to leave it all sparkly and shiny.

On the old car, I would simply use Armor-all wash & wax, and use the Armor-all spray on the plastics with some tyre shine on the tyres and mud-flaps but after a while, I found that the plastics started to look very tired and I would have to use more and more with each wash. It was almost like the plastics became 'dependant' on the Armor-all.

Any way, any tips or tricks on what others use when cleaning their cars is most appreciated.

I use Autoglym Hi- Def wax. Pricey but what a finish you get and it has lasted throughout this Scottish winter

Pre-Wash: Valet Pro Orange Citrus Pro Wax Safe Pre-wash
Washing: Meguiers NTX Wash or Zymol Auto Bathe or Gloss-It Shampoo or TurtleWax Wash n Wax
Clay Bar: Bilt Hamber soft or regular
De-Tarring: Autosmart Tardis
Wheels Sealant: Poorboys Wheel Seal or C5 Wheel Armour
Tyre Sealant: Gloss it Signature Tyre Seal
Wax: Collinte 476s or Dodo Juice Supernatural or Bilt Hamber Hydra Wax(very easy to use)
Spray Sealant: Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical

I've been using TurtleWax Wash n Wax on all my cars for over 30 years and it's hard to beat.

I use Meguires products but lately I've been taking it to a car wash It too bloody hot outside at the moment.

If your black rubber parts are going off, then I just use a VERY small bit of engine oil on a rag, rub it on then buff it off. It works a treat.

The paint is MUCH better than most cars I've had.

if you really want to wash in the summer heat, have a look at a DI resin filter

Thinking of getting one, as it filters water down to 0ppm so you don't get any water etching/spots of the car

My reason is for £109 they cost for a 11L one, its could be used to clean the house windows/conservatory like those window cleaners who don't use ladders any more and want to charge me £15 per wash  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
