Chap next door stopped by South Yorkshire Police yesterday afternoon with about 4" of snow
on his roof, rest of the vehicle with no snow on it at all, £60 fine and three points !!!!!!

With all the speed cameras bing taken out of service, it's a good my to make up the
difference.

I agree that if a vehicle is full of snow, but....

And tying this in to The Doctors posting about helping out around Derbyshire, and the pic of his car back at home;- It is also an offence to obscure your number plates!!! - just something else they could make money on.
But if you get pulled for this, have a quick check of the patrol car that stops you to see if that has the same problem!!! Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

I saw a small van with that amount of snow on its roof, for a second it thought, were the bloody hell have you been to get that amount, then i realised it was a camper van, with its pop top roof mound Embarassed

Valid point on the number plates though, but exceptions can be made if driving snow is sticking to the number plate to obscure Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

same can be said for tail-lights, i was following a car last night with what I thought was no lights on until I got close and noticed it was the amount of snow / frost stuck to them! At the end of the day if I went into the back of him it would be my fault as I wouldnt be able to prove his lights were obscured at the time.

***ATTENTION PEOPLE***

We receive e-mails from Derbyshire Police regarding community safety and other advice. Please read the following which I have copied from the e-mail because it shows that fines for snow on your roof is nonsense

Police are quashing rumours that officers will be fining motorists who do not clear snow from the roof of their vehicles.

The rumour that officers will issue Fixed Penalty Notices has been circulating via text message, email and on social network sites.

A police spokeswoman said: “It is good practice to clear snow from your roof so that it does not affect the handling of your vehicle or spray other road users while you are driving, but these rumours are unfounded. We will not be fining motorists if they have snow on the roof of their cars.”

When I did see the fine warning it was via facebook and I did think it was a spam message, same as those about getting a note saying you missed a parcel and its a premium rate call etc

But then if it stop people from driving about with it then it's a good thing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The greater hazard is ice from the roofs of lorries when it starts thawing. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

An even bigger hazard to your wallet is trying to open the sunroof, which I nearly did today reaching for my sunglasses Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Just been talking to the chap next door, and he tell's me it is a fact !!!

He was stopped near Sheffield city centre, at the top of the Parkway.

I can only tell you what he has told me. Why should he not tell the truth ?

Is fact in Scotland. Police up here gave a 3 day warning that any driver with snow on the roof that they considered dangerous would receive a £60 fine and 3 point on their licence. ______________________
