Wales 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

I had an old Mini in the 70's. It was superb in the snow providing it was no deeper than 6 inches otherwise it would get stuck under the sump.
I spent many a happy hour rescuing RWD drivers to get them home to my village.
Poor drum brakes are great in the snow; they'd never lock, a PITA to work on, but oh so much fun in the snow. i had absolutely no fear of driving it anywhere and never got stuck. My word i stretched the handbrake cable!
Happy days Razz

Snow = Closing the :cencored: schools

Had a text from the kids school saying they are closing at 12:30 Evil or Very Mad

Little bit of snow (10" in total) and they close Confused Popped out and had to clear the 2" off the car that had laid since been at work since 9am and drove off, no problem, whilst others were sliding all over the place

Had a call from the wife saying she might be having to stay open and finish work at 6pm tonight, as they are not closing the nursery were she works, but i suppose a NHS doctor can't exactly put the scalpe down and pick up the kids Laughing she then went on to say they have suggested that she sleeps over as she has to be back at work at 7am, i told her to make sure its in a 5* hotel then and she paid for it Evil or Very Mad

Also told her to keep quiet about having winter tyres on too Whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Took my wife into Hospital at 5.15am (Emergency Ambulance could not get through)around 2nd week in Dec last year.
Ended up going to pick up several key personel, they were amazed that I was able to traverse the roads.
Snow Chains and a 4x4 will get anywhere as long as Joe Public have not crammed the roads full of undrivable cars. Offset your Carbon emissions by boycotting Baked Beans and all Green Vegitables.

I've found that people who have never been in a 4x4 before are pretty ignorant to how capable good ones are (LR's!) My avatar picture was taken last december in derbyshire, with about 12 inches where the photo was taken...the snow was smooth after I'd driven through parts where the sump guard had ploughed it off...although that did mean it clogged the lower grill! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Into Derbyshire (Buxton) on Friday got a spare lower grill off e-bay so just need a spare Guard now.
Got to go into Manchester city centre at 10.30pm tonight on a Taxi run and it's coming down by the bucket load here right now. Offset your Carbon emissions by boycotting Baked Beans and all Green Vegitables.

AndyC/Athelstan et al - What's the policy on cleaning the snow off your car over in your country Question I've seen loads of cars in the last days here driving along with about 15cm/20cm + of snow on the roof/bonnet Evil or Very Mad a few miles down the road with a warm engine and brake for a set of traffic lights and plop goes all the snow onto the floor in front of the car. Then Mr Idlebarsteward sets off...... two minutes later and the same lights he was at go red again and 'Bang' Shocked Mr Someone just slid into the back of a car on Mr Idlebarstewards snow Censored
Made up name, as I don't know anyone called Mr Idlebarsteward, and maybe Mr Someone should have been paying more attention - but I've seen it nearly happen.

McP
Mr Idlebarsteward would face a stiff fine. The law states that all glazed areas of a motor vehicle must be cleared of anything that would obstruct a clear field of vision. In addition any unsafe unsecured "load" carried on the roof of any vehicle must be secured firmly or removed. In the case of snow - removed.

In the winter I see very few vehicles that contravene these statues.

In this country the big covered articulated lorries regularly shed there snow, sometimes enough to bury a car or 10 pedestrians Sad

There's no particular legislation in the UK but they could be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention or careless or inconsiderate driving.
