Ok, so I know that the HSE is the one to have. However, it clearly comes with a price premium.

Can someone tell me the differences between the XS, SE and HSE specs please and advertisements are inconsistent e.g. some SE's seems to have full leather and xenons (2 features that appeal to me)

Also, what are the 'cold climate' and 'clear view' packs that I'm seeing?

As with most makes and models people ordering from new can have extras added to the standard spec, explaining the leather and xenons on the SE you have seen

Spec sheets are available from dealer showrooms-although the latest my11 specs has changed a little.

If you are looking at 2011MY then landrovers own website is best, click on Freelander 2 page then click the 'compare' subheading, you can then view specs for all models as well as prices for adding them to your desired spec (provided they are available as an option!) Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

If used, it depends what model year you have and what options were fitted by the owner - don't pay a premium for options secondhand!!!

I'm going for used.

Budget is about £18k. Ideal would be an HSE Auto but pretty rare/mega miles at this money it would seem. Hence considering an SE.

Full leather is essential which, I know, isn't standard on sub-HSE spec but seems to appear as an option on some SEs.

Given that replacement wheels (some nice 19"s) appear pretty reasonable, if I could get a bargain SE with full leather then that'd be a good alternative to an HSE.

(Would still prefer an HSE though if anyone knows of one at my price point)

With a bargain SE you'd need to check on radio spec and satnav. Mine has the standard radio and no satnav.

I wanted a HSE auto but ended up with a 57 SE with full leather and paid 19k with just over 40k miles

I've added some HSE 18s and so there is little different between mine and a HSE, only thing I can see is the stereo, memory seats and the auto recurculation... oh and not forgetting the missing 'H'  Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints
