Missing ping?

I have heard others on the forum talk about getting an audible warning when the ice warning comes on, I have a 2009 XS and when the temp drops and I get the ice warnig but I only get the symbol come up, no audible warning, is this an option, does it need to be turned on, by way of experiment I tries opening a door at 20mph, again the door open warning came up, but no audible warning. am I missing a 'ping'. I am worried I might get somthing serious might happen, get visible warning, which is easy to miss, but no audble warning.
Thanks in advance as I am sure someone will know the answer.

Hi
I have the XS and get a ping when temperature hits +4 I also get one if seat belt not on and moving and the same for passenger seatbelt. I don't know if it is the same audible warning for the lights left on (not in auto position) but you could try this and see if you get a warning noise. (leave lights on with keyfob out and open door). You also get a warning ping if any warning comes into the drivers information display.
Hope this helps and good luck. Thumbs Up

I have a 59 GS but also get no "ping", only the snow symbol. Does the ping only happen if while driving, the temperature drops to this point and not when starting out first thing on a cold morning when the temp is already at that point. Confused

When I first get in my car, if the temp is +4 or lower, I get a ping before even moving. I think I have the cold climate pack (don't know how you tell for sure) so maybe it is to do with that.

I definatlely have the cold climate pack, so it's nothing to do with that, It does shout at me if I don't put the seat belt on, does anyone knowif there is any sort of test to see if your 'ping' is working.

Just been out to the works car park and started up my car, it pinged to let me know it was cold out there. I had to really listen hard for it as I'm a bit deaf to higher frequencies and never really took any notice of it before.
So yeah, it does ping and that's on a GS without the cold climate pack.

I haven't noticed mine pinging recently despite the temperature registering down to -3, the snowflake symbol does display though. Will have a close listen next time I start and report back. Big Cry

mines more of a subtle beep beep than a ping - I wondered what it was when I first heard it as it happened whilst driving. Its definitely different to the ping you get when the door is open or the lights are on etc Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Yep mines a beep beep too, same noise you get when you get a warning message for low washer fluid. Ping is for seatbelts not fastened. Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

Heard mine for the first time yesterday (07 GS). It's very quiet and if I hadn't read about it on this forum I would probably have ignored it!

A quick successive beep beep then the message, is it not the same beep beep that comes with any warning like "Transmission Fault" or the "Low Washer Fluid"

It scared the Censored out of us when we first got our 57 GS!

The sound level variation for this feature between different models / builds must be immense (or my 57-yr old hearing is better than swmbo thinks - or maybe it's just selective Wink )

Get a beep-beep on mine. Certainly different to a ping. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

Today I got a low toned beep beep on start up at -7C and the visual snow flake warning. If I turn off the engine and wait (not too long in -7) before starting again I just get a flashing snow flake for a few seconds before it stops flashing (no audible warning).

Regardless if its a Roadrunner "beep beep" or a Bearded Tit "ping ping", whats important is that you should get an AUDIBLE warning as well as a VISUAL warning when the temperature reaches (goes down to) +4C.

When the temperature is +4C or below when starting you will also get these warnings, but if the temperature is already below this while driving you will only get the visual (snow flake), as the audible warning has been and gone and you haven't noticed it. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

At this time of year I expect it to be cold and I know it is when I wake up at daft o'clock and find the cat draped around my head like a Davey Crockett hat Shocked so no biggy there.
Where it will come in handy is late autumn/early spring while driving in changeable conditions and not noticing the snowflake.

Just booked mine in to have a sticking Bi-xenon looked at next week and mentioned the ping/beep beep, so looking forward to their explanation.
