Always have handy some ice-remover for door locks (Lock Oil) - this comes in a handy container for squirting in the keyhole - Not much use for a Freely though I guess.

An old Indian trick is to urinate on the lock first thing in the morning, goto have a full bladder, then slowly blow hot air onto the area from a distance of an inch.

Surprised it’s got that cold in the UK. Shocked

By the way, Ticktock’s advice would not work during winter as the urination would freeze before it reached the lock (no joke) Whistle .

However this article http://www.dinside.no/827911/dette-bor-du-ha-med-i-bilen-i-vinter may be of use if you want to let Mr. Google translate it. Lock spray is recommended when the lock mechanism is frozen, but if you have a key hole then lock oil is the thing. Both products are sold in a host of places here under various brand names. The one illustrated in the article CRC http://www.clasohlson.no/Product/Product.aspx?id=136428288 is very good. Turtle do one http://www.bilxtra.no/butikk/?ItemId=4250 but they all are basically the same, and you will have to find out which brand is sold in the UK. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Works better on a LR, as owners we are always getting pi**ed on by dealers, so the logic stand that we pi** on the cars.

Yeh, life is sweet unless the WD40 freezes Shocked Still not much chance for the in the UK Thumbs Up
WD40 is great for realising rust and probably frozen stuff in the short term, but it is very thin and may well be detrimental and in colder climates. The stuff I have used earlier (Claus Olsen stuff maybe?) referred to seems to contain graphite and does seem a pretty good lubricant for locks. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

AndyC you do keep saying it doesn't get cold over here...the diesel emulsified last winter in fuel tanks so it was lower than -15 at times. Ours didn't start for this reason when I went to it one day.

WD40's always worked when I was working with machines so you shoul dbe fine with that Thumbs Up Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

OK sorry, -15C is a bit chilly Whistle but it never used to get that cold when I lived in Bedfordshire Laughing
However, many Norwegians would only start to use the term "cold" at -20C and between -25C to -35C as "cold enough" Shocked .

ps - being UK bred, I hibernate from -5C Laughing 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
