As most of the current range's (including the Evoque) development was paid for by Ford, while sharing a lot of components, engines and even platforms with Ford, I'm not sure how a stand alone manufacturer could justify the development costs for a replacement car. Especially when the production volumes on the current Freelander 2 have only been 250,000 in the first 4 years.

Unless there is significant cooperation with another major manufacturer, I would expect the Freelander 3 to be no more than a re-skin of the current car. Imagine the change from Disco 1 to Disco 2. Mind you, that would seem like a brilliant idea!...

The Evoque is more or less a reskin of the FL2

Total rubbish!! Landfill et all!

The Defender may not change at all, it may just get to the end of the road and thats it, their may not be a replacement.

Not as I understand it. Defender Lives on!! albeit on a slightly different platform/chassis.

Not quite, it has alot more chassis components made from alluminium where FL2 is predominantly steel. It also have a wide track than freelander 2.

So although based on Freelander 2's platform, there are hardly any shared componenets.

Yep!

Nope, its not.

Some interesting comments here. Can't say anything, but some are heading in the right direction and others are way off the mark :-0

Yes, No and Maybe...

Same engines, same platform, same chassis (save the fancy magneride dampers and a couple of odds and ends) BUT it's still a world of difference and much more than the theoretical outcome of a three door FL2 that's had an elephant sit on the back of it (IMO in symplistic terms of styling - also think the transition of a Mk5 Golf 3dr to Scirocco too).

Really want (but can't afford) Firenze red 5dr petrol with white pano roof - configurator comes to £45k Big Cry

Evoque = Bow down

I like the darker coulours on the car, but the silver with the black "eyebrows" looks smart...

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Bali Blue

Yes that silver evoque looks very nice but as stated already its smaller than the FL2 when really it should be a little bigger.

I hope the FL3 gets the Evoque front end treatment - it looks the dogs! Lets hope they design a proper rear end though!!! Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit
