United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black
Just ordered my first Freelander

Hi Guys

New to the forum and I have just ordered my new Freelander 2 GS in Black with priv glass from Stratstone Aylesbury and should get it before Christmas. Very Happy

I have a few questions for you guys that you may be able to help with

1. Already thinking of snow what do you guys recommend for snow chains are they need and 2 or 4
2. Have possible the smallest labrador in the country and I know she is going to have trouble getting in the boot any solutions taken I have tried ramps before but such a pain in the AŁ@S
3. Have an Iphone and hopefully it will pair with bluetooth has anyone got any suggestions to get the music to work with the sound system and the best way to mount

I am sure there are hundreds of more questions as I am so excited I am about to burst

Congratulations, I'm sure you'll love it.

Regarding the snow chains, you'll find lots of threads if you search, but there are lots of options, a spare set of rims with winter or all terrain tyres, chains or socks, the decision is yours.

Can't help with your dog other than teach it to climb kitchen ladders Very Happy

Regarding the phone, I just fitted one of THESE paired with a suitable iPhone adaptor available like THIS including the swivel mount and fitted in a matter of 5 minutes.

Sorry can't help with the bluetooth compatibility of the iPhone. Enjoy Thumbs Up

Regarding snow chains, will you need them, nothing the last winter brought was a problem around Aylesbury, you will be surprised how capable your Freelander is Thumbs Up

I managed to get some Land Rover spike spiders from Ebay, don't know if I will need them but they will be in the car just incase the weather turns bad (always handy when shift working).

If you want a look its the ones here; (mine are the sport version)

I guess that I live near to you and can say with confidence that, if the winter is no worse than last year then you will be fine. To avoid congestion I commuted across Asheridge Common and through The Lee / Gt Missenden in the worst of the weather and didn't have any issues at all. Just use the TR dial and you'll be fine! It was nice to be one of the few cars on the back roads and lanes! Whistle

In the manual - Spikes Spiders for front wheels only. Don't think you can use any other type of chain. Didn't need anything last year though and our estate was like an ice rink. It was nice to be one of the few to be able to escape, and that was on OEM Wranglers.

Congrats!!!
I too ordered my11 fl2 sd4 in black with privacy glass from Stratstone Aylesbury. Very good experience with them. Gavin was our sales guy.
iPhone 4 links perfectly via bluetooth.
Make sure you get the off road experience voucher. We had a great time just up the road at the newton longville site.

Look at the post by bjartin dated 1 Dec 2008. It is all about snow chains and alternatives.

I bought the Snow Belts as a sort of last resort insurance policy.
I have not had to use them - yet, as the FL2 has remarkable grip in snow, even when towing a caravan.
I bought my Snow Belts from www.the12voltshop.co.uk back in 2008.

Re: Snow chains, driving in bad weather etc.
I was at Land Rover Experience in Dunkeld (near Perth) in January this year. I drove the FL2 HSE Auto with original Continental Tyres 18" wheels. I drove it on hard packed snow, ice and in up to 18" of snow without any real problems.
I had a very good instructor and that helped.

If you have the right tyres (WINTER not ALL YR MS) the FL2 4WD (not the new MY2011 2WD) with the aid of the TR and a driver who knows how to drive in the snow & ice will get you out of whatever winter weather the UK throws at you.

I live up in the Swiss alps (all 3 mountain passes out of here are now closed to traffic due to snow - only way out is one long road down the valley to the lakes where there's a motorway) and I assure you we have worse weather and for longer (Nov > End April at least) than in Blighty.

Our village now has second FL2 owner - I convinced one of the villagers not to buy the Subaru (85% of 4x4 in our village are Subaru) that's no surprise as the brother of the local Subaru dealer lives here, (no 2WD cars either). Interestingly though all the 4 farmers here have used LR's (not one single Asian or Yank 4x4 on these local mountains.) A motley collection of Defender, Series 111, Discovery and one RR Classic.

AlterG,
Well Done ( one more of us one less of them) Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Driving in snow, I only got stuck when driving in approx 18 inches of deep snow and that was only because I was bull-dossering the snow which was then coming over the bonnet and lifted the front wheels off the road !! it just backed out (standard half worn tyres) My wife was not to happy, have a look at my Gallery !!
All the the best and welcome Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
