WD 40 wont solve the problem as it will dry out and the same problem will accur. It needs added lube if its completely dried out but its unlikely.

I noticed one of my door mirrors was a little juddery this morning so I'd like to follow the advice on this tread and give the mechanisms a little lube.

Does anyone have a picture of the wing mirror when its pushed forward so I can get an idea of what I should be trying to recreate - I've seen the instructions and I'm still not 100% of what I should be doing.

Thanks and sorry for being a Doris Embarassed

I know I said it before here somewhere but seriously - don't lubricate with WD40 (it's not a long term lubricant) or silicone spray which will seize metal on metal surfaces. It's easy enough to buy lithium or copper based spray grease that will do the job properly and will last longer.

As no one had any photos I figured I'd just give this a try anyway.

The mirrors didn't need too much forcing to go back on themselves, a quick wipe down and some lube and they are rotating smoothly - here's a photo of what mine looked like once rotated:

Mine started doing this 2 weeks ago today, I just gave them a little wd40 and they are good,

Now to this death knell nonesense if wd is used. Obviously these things are not sealed for life so will need some form of lubricant over their life span, any form of lubrication will work, some may need more frequent applications of different lubricants. Some others may be more suitable given the application.

Any lubricant will hold dirt and dust, wether it be oil, grease (of any colour) , or other spray on lubes.

Would I put wd40 in my engine In place of the correct oil no, but I will use it when needed on my wing mirror hinge. Will I use spray copperslip when I get chance yes. But for a quick lube wd40 is fine. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

One thought based on experience.... I've noticed when one of my mirrors has direct sun on it for a while the problem comes back ( until it cools ).....

Obvious when you think about it.

Wing mirrors? never use them, thought them were for decoration. Used as advertising purposes to say the car is that much wider Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

Folding mirrors are juddering

My mirrors (more so on the passenger side) judder when I use the remote to close/open the vehicle. I read somewhere on here about pushing the mirrors 'in' and spraying silicone. Has anyone done this. and which way do you push the mirrors, to the window or away from it?

Thanks.
Steve.

Push mirror forward away from window and as previously stated spray with a silicone grease.
A short term fix can be applied using WD40 but silicone is better and lasts longer.

I've always used mr sheen or similar on plastics to lubricate them it does not effect the plastic at all and lasts a good while
They contain silicone and waxes so lubricate plastics quite well also can stop annoying interior trim squeaks inside the car with the benefit of a pleasant smell

Mr Sheen multi purpose doesn't contain waxes so make sure you get the right one.
