Blue Tack?

Would "Blue Tack" be a cheaper alternative to the expensive Clay Bars sold by various detailing suppliers - used with a suitable lubricant of course.

Should have done a little research before posting Embarassed Anyway discovered this regarding the "abrasive" qualities of detailing clay.

http://www.autopia.org/forum/guide-detaili...aning.html

Back in the 60's and 70's my late father in law ran a limousine hire business in Mayfair and they used to clean their Daimlers first by washing and then using Scrim ( which was a rough hessian type material that was boiled for hours on end to soften it) then a final shampoo, rinse and chamois prior to waxing.

From my memory it took a full day to clean the cars but they were immaculate. A million miles from the modern detailing mania.
