The AA have been doing it for years (When your battery flat) You get few more chances to open the car before replacing the flat battery

This effect would be largely due to 2 factors:
1. The orientation of the antenna in the fob is different since he's holding it effectively at 90 degrees.
2. There will be some ground planing effect which serves to make the antenna more directional.
Depending on the design of the fob you could just as easily lose range by doing the same.

I think also your skull (head) is working like a small dish which points the signal towards the car ???

I've noticed the freelander 2 key seems to unlock the car from miles away anyweay....I was in York a few weeks ago in a bar having a drink, with the car parked on the opposite side of the river, a long way away. When I spotted 2 chav's hanging around decided to press the panic alarm button...and it worked, much to our amusement as they ran away like scoulded cats! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

I can be quite forgetfull at my time of life and am still amazed at how far away I can just check to see I've locked her, a little blip and the indicators flash in the distance
I think it must have something to do with the keyfob always being fully charged perhaps?
My old kia used to sometimes take 2 or 3 presses when stood at the drivers door trying to get in

My last LR vehicle you could lock or unlock when you were about 70 metres away and that didn't have a rechargable fob.

When I bought my new Freelander in 2008, I parked it in the street, diagonally opposite my house at about 15 yards.
My 3 year old grandson was 'playing' with the key fob, pointing it away from the front of the house.
I heard an alarm going off in the street, and commented, "Whose bloody alarm is gooing off again"! I went out the front to check, and was amazed to find that it was mine.
