Anyone who gets fixated on this 'bashing caravanners' band wagon needs to get a life. There are plenty of genuine hazards on the road like unroadworthy vehicles and uninsured drivers, which need sorting before turning on perfectly roadworthy and well driven (mostly) car / caravan outfits.

Last time I checked it wasn't illegal to tow a 'van on the highway. We all have our vices, what's yours? !!!

If people are so impressionable that they get brainwashed by the top-gear 'blow up a caravan' mindset and adopt those views as their own, then they need to take a good look in the mirror and work out why they are so gullable.

For me, a caravan holiday is fantastic, the kids love it, and in a world where I get to choose how to spend my time and my money I say tough doo-doo to anyone stuck behind a caravan. Change down a gear and overtake, a stop your whining.

But we are all entitled to out opinions, aren't we.

I type this with a smile on my face, so don't bother replying with the ' miserable git ' comments. It just needed saying.

Nuff said.

ad210358
Their should be a Tax on all trailers not just LGV's then we can get some of these delapidated farmers trailers off the roads Thumbs Up
Warning: for those of you who may wish to travel on Swiss motorways towing a caravan or any form of trailer; it is compulsory to purchase a "Vignette" (available at all Swiss Post Offices & Border Crossings) one for your car - and - one for your caravan or trailer. The current cost is CHF40 each (approx UK£24 @ today's xc rate.)

These are valid until 31st Jan the following year. Failure to display the vignette incurs an automatic fine of CHF200 plus CHF20 admin fee plus an escort off the motorway to the nearest Post Office to buy one. Note: inspections for vignettes usually take place on the motorway's exit road.

For the record caravans may not pay any RFL, but they still pay tax........in the form of fuel tax, a caravan increases the amount of fuel consumption of a vehicle and so increases the amount of tax paid to the treasury. Thumbs Up

The other argument that CG has failed to realise is that if caravans were banned the next time he stayed at one of his boutique hotels he might find it is full of ex-vanners!
