Forgot to add to last post!

Pulling away at a junction with a load behind can take a bit of getting used to with auto, do get some lag with take up of drive. With manual you have to be gentle with throttle and clutch possitions, with auto you have to gun throttle some what more to make initial progress.

Whilst towing horsebox with 65 hay bales on board ( sure a farmer (chicken)could convert this into weight or value), found that going into sand mode and manual mode gave better acceleration. Try it solo off the lights next to young people for a laugh. Very Happy 1998 Feelander XDI Hardback - Gone

My manual remains on 30.9MPG on a long term basis as it was ages ago since I reset it, so that is poor IMO.

I think manual is awfull - should have got an auto. Gear box is no problem, it is just the lag you get when changing up the gears due to the fuel being starved briefly or whatever it iis called so this removes any driving pleasure. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

i've placed an order for an fl2 xs in auto.

reason for the auto is because after years of driving a manual, i'm sick of them. can't stand to put my clutch down, lift my arm up and change the gear every 1 minute.

i'm mostly going to be driving around town, and i just don't want a manual any more. i wanted a spacious, comfortable car, and in auto. relaxing. last thing i want after a day of heavy lifting is having a manual to drive.

i know it'll cost more fuel wise, but i'm willing to pay that bit more so my leg doesnt have to do more work and my arm can rest. save the energy to work, to earn money, to pay for my fuel.

auto is the way for me.

I can see the reasoning if you are doing heavy lifting at work kristo. When I had an FL1 manual and it was in for a repair they lent me a FL2 Auto and I knew I wanted one. Thankfully I test drove the manual and it is much better to drive and there was no looking back. I have had a couple of autos since I bought mine as courtesy cars when minor work was done and for me the manual is far superior. Each to their own of course but whilst the auto is fine normally, it's too jerky on kick down and revs too high before changing. Less revs in 6th at 70mph in the manual. Once you get used to a car you know what gear is best and when to change and the box is very smooth, loads of glorious torque.

I will never change my mind as auto lovers will never change their's but whenever I have had an auto on loan, I can't wait for it to go back so I can get my manual back again. Auto is just irritating rather than relaxing.

Opposite with me, I have a Manual and had an Auto from LR Assist and was impressed, when this one is up for renewal I'll go down the Auto route, much better drive.

But if we were all the same it would be very boring, each to their own.

been to test drive an auto yesterday and happy with the box, noticed though that it gets 5 miles less to the gallon than my manual. Rang the previous owner who confirmed never really saw any more than 26 running around in it, i got better than that in my 130i ! - think i'll stick to my manual now as its much cheaper to run Thumbs Up freelander 2 SE black and beige - now sold

if you just want to get from A to B and are too lazy or just can't be bothered to change gear, then it's the auto for you.................simples.

Well I've no experience of either in the Freely but as my current car (which I don't intend getting rid of) is manual I think I'll stick with auto for the Freely which is always going to be more of a workhorse really. Blue

Myself and others have argued in this thread many times but mudslinger is way off the mark. The command shift is not a proper manual and a proper driver who is used to driving using a proper gearbox (manual) will not forget to change gear. If you have an auto and decide to use command shift then it is as good as admitting you should of got a manual. I concede that regular off road and towing will suit the auto better but it costs more to buy and it has a jerky change (on kick down) that revs too much before changing gear and costs more to tax. The manual is so smooth, refined and economical especially with stop/start. Opinions aside, there is no avoiding the fact that approx £1500 buys the auto box which then costs more to run and don't bleat about not being bothered about the difference cos the fact is if you buy the manual you still get the fantastic FL2 but the added bonus of spending less. Think of the optional extras you can afford for £1500 instead.
